Anyone ever seen this done?
Whats the deal with the 727 in Rangies, is it common to all other 727's ie if you swap bellhousings or get the right one to mate to a 440 and use the Rangie adapter to tcase all bolts up?
Just curious.
Just finished perusing and old issue of 'engines' by Hot Rod magazine and got all excited about a 550hp big block, salisbury diffed, Range Rover project............

no, if you remove the rover-727 adapter you are left with an international harvester bolt pattern. the "rover" 727 is actually just an IH cased 727 with an adapter. why i dont know.
what you could do, however, is get a dodge 4wd 727 and use the 727-LT230 adapter from a range rover. this, combined with all of the std range rover shift linkage for a 727 and all, would allow you to drop in a 440 or whatever you wanted with minimal effort.

Yep - the 727 is the same as the international scout with an adapter on the front, an extension housing on th rear and a rear spudshaft. It bolts up to a lt230.
Had one in my shed for a while and sold it to "bobtail"on this site.
They do come up every now and then in the trading post up here for about $600 or so. Its just a matter of finding one.
