Fuel range required is anywhere between 750k's to 1500k's. Depends on the way you move through the competition areas and when you get to go to Packsaddle and Broken Hill or Menindee to re-fuel. As far as speeds are concerned most of the faster driving is during sand stages either in the dunes or along dried up river beds. Speed is important but due to it normally being on sand so is stability and handling. You really have to know your vehicles limits and constantly drive to those limits to match it with the top runners.
But at the end of the day as Jonesy said go there and be as competetive as your 4b can be and above all else have a blast.
I've competed the last 3 years and I'm addicted purely for the social enjoyment factor along with the wheelin.
Its common for comp cars to carry anywhere up to 4 jerry cans to give them the fuel range required. Last year I went up to compete as navi with 80ute who runs a big block and when fully loaded we were carring just under 400 litres of premium unleaded. Not cheap to re-fuel, especially in Broken Hill or Packsaddle.
Darren has a sure shoulder, but they are both fine, I think they drove a little too hard to win a stage and whoops this happened.
The annoying bit is they are at Denian, so it's about 12 hours towing a trailer and another 3 hours out to Denian.

*Hobzee cleard the winch wall this time and had a much easier drive thru 13km grorge run. Maybe tire size??
*Colin Pond is back in competitiion after getting a steering box up from Hall 4x4 Salvage in Melbourne. The lenghts we go to
*Greg Scanlon is back with group after fuel problems
*Hobzee has killed his alternator and is charging his batteries with other teams vehicles during down time. Great team effort me thinks
*Mal Graham isn't with rest of group and not known where abouts?
*Guy Holt (Black Rat 80) broke both CV's tackelling winch wall but still moving.
Hopefully more later or 1st thing in morning.
Gotta hate rolling Greenie & Sandy but at least theyre OK. I'm sure they'll be back.

Hey All my where abouts is at home in sunny Newport after along drive home
All was going great after fitting the new gearbox(thanks peterAMV) and paul for bring it up we managed to tie for 5th spot with Darren Green on Saturdays nights run
We continued doing good fast times & the car felt great,anyway to cut along story short we arrived in Broken Hill from transport from Denian got ordered a Pizza then out of the blue the transfer made a few noises then it got worse
We where tempeted to take the transfer out of the tow vehicle but we had already had 2 DNF's so loosing 100 points for not getting the transport in time plus missing the next SS another 100 points we decided to call it a day
So headed home mostly so my Navi could be with his family To the rest still going i wish i was still out there
Out of the group i was in (group b) Dean Killmurray & Jack Talbot when last i saw them had no DNF'S and where coming on strong & also Chunk was going great guns as well nearly driving the sand wall at Denian but at that stage had one DNF at the Mud.Also John Howath & Peter Renolds no DNF's and will hopefully be near the top ten.
Best bit was beating Hobbsy at Denian by 2 seconds in the Motorkana course & Gunbarrel sorry mate had to rub it in

OKZOOK I wont be going up for tomorrow but will ask Hobzee where the meeting is when I can finally get thru to him. The must be in a ditch or a hole as last year the phone worked in most places and he's been outa range every time I've tried calling today.

Joe last year we had a geat run no punctures(this year we plugged atleast 15) its hard to put the comp in there as putting a tranmission in on Saturday( afew times) really stuffed us.I was a walking Zombie for the first few days & also we lost our high pressure hose on the steering box so resulted in very tough SS'S.
B group was fantastic New Dean,Chunk,Henry,Hobbys & John from last year didnt really get to speak much wth the Scandlins(thanks for the tips on tyre changing) & colin(brawn) ect

Mal just out of curiosity did you run new tires this year or had they been used b4. Curious as we had over 40 punctures last year on used tyres, trying to see if this may be the reason.

Was speaking to Cheezy last night, apparently Allison got almost all the way there then Darren's Missus's Injected 5L GQ she was driving....burnt completely to the ground!!
All passengers OK so I hear. Fire got so hot that there is nothing salvagable, it even melted the springs into coil bind.

Women drivers.... as long as they are ok, all is kewlish..
Except for the paasenger door I believe but then I may have had something to do with that last year in the gorge.

But Mr Hummer likes being 3rd as that's what he's placed lately in a few events, but he is in the unknown group and may just well do it. I reckon Laurie and Sean would have been competitive but the speed, or lack of it from the 2.8 diesel, may have put them back some. We'll see soon.
