cv clip.
Ive seen this before ,check that the spring on the wheel bearing seal hasnt come of . this jams between the stub and bearing, stuffs the seal and doesnt allow the hub to go no far enough. or there could be grease between the stub and brass thrust washer and or cv, if so holding the cv spline with multigrips while pulling and turning will bring cv out.

checked all that ... i pulled it all apart again ... and wiped the grease out where the thrust washer is and slots into .. still same thing ..
the seal on the back of the stub axel is fine and seats over the cv good

I've only played with toyota cv's so this may only be applicable to toy's but is there a threaded hole in the end of the stub axle? If so try threading a bolt into it and pulling cv back out so circlip will fit on. Fit free wheeling hub before doing the above though. You may have already tried or know this but just trying to help.
Cheers and goodluck.

as the nissan cvs dont have a threaded hole it makes it hard to pull out. is the washer around the right way. try measuring the cv to stub length on the other side to determine if the problem is in the stub area or is the hub not going on far enough . is in auto locking hubs on a gq, i think they have a washer pack on the end of the stub ,differnt to the manual locking ones. it could be a wheel bearing not seated right.

its the same on both sides .. i need 2-3mm to get circlip into the groove its just covered by the end of the stub ..
manual locking hubs ...
think i'll just get the mechanic to come round tomorrow and look at it ..
it'll prolly just fall into place then ...

gq circlip doesnt go on the end of the stub it goes on the next bit, the bit the outer locking hub locks to when locked in.

Is the machined ring that Bazzle mentions actually seating far enough in the hub itself? There is a packing piece that seats up against the outer bearing outer race. This is what larger machined ring actually saits on in the hub . Normally the locking teeth on the clutch piece that slides on to the axle splines should sit level with machined ring. This ring also protrudes a bit past the hub mating flange. 5mm sounds like a lot of space to need to pull the axle out. Are the bolts that hold the stub axle to the CV Housing done up tight and is the stub axle seated in the CV housing properly?

Make sure the brass washers are on the right way around also if you have replaced the wheel bearings make sure that the new ones have a round rear inside edge and not a square edge like on a standard bearing for some reason the wheel bearsing inner bearing has a radiused shoulder had this happen before .Nissan should of threaded the hole in the end of the shafts to make it easy to pull out but they didnt
grr! i can see the slot for the circlip ... getting angry now ..
1-2mm need just for the circlip ...
is there anything stopping me putting a thread in the hole in the end of the cv?

yeh i did talk to him ... reckons i had the thrust washer round the wrong way .... pulled it all apart again to check .. had it the right way ...
so ... just need some thing to grip the end of the shaft and pull it that 1mm to get the clip on
