33s on IFS Hilux?

Anyone know if I could put 33" tyres on a 99 IFS Hilux ute? Single cab traytop.
Would a body lift on the cab be enough to get them to clear? I think the rears would be ok on a traytop?
Then there's the question of if a 3.0 lt diesel (non turbo) will push them. Thinking of Cooper STTs

Hi,

I have an IFS 4runner. I am running 33's. Needed a 2 inch body lift. I have the 2.4 Litre Diesel. Its slow, but managable.

yes, heaps...

Firstly. and most obviously, a lot more sluggish.

Also effects steering, as each bump in the road seems to have a much greater effect on which way the wheels ponit. The steering also seems much lighter while moving, worse at higher speeds. Its controllable though.

I also have fairly big offset rims, and my front wheel bearings hate me.

The ride seems to be a bit harsher with the bigger tyres as well. I have another set of stock 4runner rims and tyres, Much better ride.

Also, breaking steering links and CV's is much easier.

I have 90 mod solid axle with 2.8 diesel and the bizarre thing is my truck is heaps better with 33's. It now has power to overtake (engine always had lotsa low end grunt but ran out of steam 70+ kph) seems to ride a little better and handling hardly affected.

Seriously- it is like my truck is geared just right with the 33's. Very happy.

you need a 2 inch body lift, that is using 8 inch rims, for 10 inch rims you need 2" in the body plus 2" in the suspension. - they still scrub a bit.

with jsut the body lift and 33x12.5 on 8 inch rims they will still scrub on the body but only slightly.

dude i got a 3lt(non turbo) 2000 hilux with 33'' mickey thompson baja calws. i got a 2;; body and wound up the torsion bars 1 /12 '' so it sits level and its wett. pushed them fine.,

get bigger most people have around 31" all the wheel ruts are dug to that depth - with a diesel non turbo go 32x11.5 BFG muds... you'll never look back - will fit on with no modifications.

Running 32/9.5 Centipedes on my lux. They fit no problems.
No body lift required just a little trimming of the mud flap and flare.
Mine is an SR5 though so you may not need to trim at all.

32's in the centipede are actually taller than a 33 inch bfg.

If you stick to the narrower tyre ie 255/85R16 you shouldn't have a problem.

Know a guy hows running 34 inch swampers on an ifs lux no body lift.

ive got 31' bfg At on my 98 ifs lux and they rub the back of the guard. no mods at all except for sagged torsion bars. need to wind them up a bit me thinks.

Got 31" simex on mine with no scrubing, but i no i would not fit any bigger on with out a lift ( i do have a wider offset)

i 've got a mate with a single cab same model as yours he wants to do a body lift 2" just wondering what he should look out for such as radiator steering and so on all help would be appreciated :)

Ended up with 31x10.5s Cooper STTs. Dont think I could go any bigger stock as they just touch on a trailing edge of my bullbar at full lock/compression. Time to trim up the bar!

things to watch for
-brakes line lengths
-fuel filler length
-untighten the steering shaft and made sure there is enough length when raised
-before tensioning up body bolts check that the gear stick works in all gears with out hitting the body same with transfer lever
-lift slowly!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-also watch for any engine electric wires that may be tight and might need extension 2" should be ok
-also adjust handbrake for new position (should disconnect when lifting)
-check radiator hoses and height of radiator (lower if neccessary)

I run 35" Simex J/T's with 4" lift & 2" body lift on my '91 Surf and have no problems :cool:

my wifes 88 surf has a 4" Skyjacker lift kit with 33's. but the gearing is now a shocker and it takes a long time to get up to speed.

i just fitted 33's to my 4 runner ans i dont get any scrubing,
i got leaf spring offset rins, and a 2in body lift,
the only prob i have is the tyers sticking out 2 in, i just gotts get flairs
If at first you dont succeed... Skydiving is not for you!
