Pinion bearings

In the diff when the pinion bearings stuffup is it usually both bearings or mainly the outer? I am just wondering because I am getting new pinion seals fitted. the bearings are ok at the moment but if it is the outer 1 that usually fails I would like to replace the outers while the seals are being done. Is this advisable or not??????? Thanks

Pointless only doing one bearing, better inthe long run to do at least both if not the carrier bearings as well. Esp when you have to pull it down any way just to replace one properly.

It is normal practice to reset the preload on the pinion when replacing bearings the slight difference in manufacturing tolerances can affect the mesh of the pinion with the crownwheel. You may need to add shims to adjust the depth properly in this case considering the time taken for you to pull the diff down to replace the front bearing It would be a good time to rerace the whole diff.

i second that. when installing my previous diff i fkd the preload up and whined like you wouldnt believe. do thing whole thing and then you can rely on your diff.
