foot switch

Post by Mechman »

hi guys,
having so many problems with operating my spots via the highbeam (previous thread) i have decided to take them off for the RW. i have plans to just wire the damn things up to the battery with a switch in the dash. the highbeam on these FJ40's are crap anyway.
i was wondering if anyone knew of a foot switch that i could put in the floor to work the spotties. i seem to remember driving a car that had this.. might have been back in the UK, im not sure..

and thoughts or comments??

cheers

i know the switch your talking about. its the dip (hi/low) switch.

my brothers jeep has one, and so does my XP falcon.

whats so hard about wiring through the hi beams?

all you need is speaker wire and a switch.

run the wires from the common and hi beam wires on the back of the drivers side light, run 1 of those wires to a switch in the cab, then to the relay.

My mother's LJ Torana had the dip switch on the floor - if you can find one at a wrecker?

ok, these FJs are wired strange.. power goes to both high and low even when just on low.. therefore the spots are always powered...

like the idea of the foot switch... might look into the XP falcon... should i be looking for a particular year?

if you run a wire from the common wire and a wire from the hi beam wire.

it shouldnt matter if its negative switched or not. there is a 12V difference between the 2 wires therefor the coil in the relay will energise. add a switch to one of your new wires (in the cab, on the dash or whatever) this breaks the circuit, turning the spots off.
