Rear disc brakes on gen1s

Post by sparkem »

Hello everyone, I am from 4x4wire. Over here in the US we did not get disc brakes on out gen1s. Does anyone know if they are the same as the gen2? What pieces would be needed to convert mine? Were the axle shafts different? Would the parts be easy to find in a wrecking yard? How much? Would anyone be wiling to ship the stuff to me? Does anyone have pics? Thanks in advance.

Yeah I think the Gen 1 & Gen 2 rear disc brakes are different.
I think the Gen 1 parking brake works on the calipers instead of having an internal drum like the Gen 2 ???
However the standard parking brake cable should work on either.
You will need to buy the whole axle as the backing plate is located by the pressed on wheel bearing, disc rotors and calipers.
The Gen 2 axles are slightly longer than a Gen 1 so one option is to cut down a Gen 2 set of axles so they will fit snuggly into your Gen 1.
You guys get parts from wreckers way cheaper than us so to get the axles cut down a tad and resplined would be cheaper than shipping all this over to the US.
Hope this helps.

Is that you Frank? I figured it would cost more to ship them rather than make something over here work. Thanks for the help anyway.
