engine questions
My 1.3 has decided to pull the pin and call it a day im over fighting it so ive decided to replace the engine rather then keep fixing problem after problem. At the moment 98% driving is to and from work bout 8km away i want something with more power then the 1.3.
i want something pretty easy to put in looking at the suzisport website they have angle drive things for gti engines but does that gti engine then bolt straight to the sierra gearbox??
then there is the 1.6 vitara engine they have adapter plates to fit sierra boxs to vitara engine??
pretty much i just want to know an easy engine with abit more power for road driving??

Maybe put an original engine back in ( or rebuild your own )with a bit of work to the head, a different cam and extractors / exhaust.
Will give you some power / torque increase without mucking around with fitting different motors.

I re-read your post, and you don't mention that you are on a budget, so I will give you the Suzuki range as I see it.

then you have the 1.3 GTI efi donk, a bit more top end power, far better drivability (EFI), and there is nothing like a twin cam rocker cover for wank factor but you have some small conversion issues and potentialy, engineering, insurance and rego issues. $1300
After that we go to the Vit 1.6 (carb & EFI), a big jump in power right across the board, better drivability (EFI) but you step up to another level of mods to fit it, and you DO have rego/engineer and maybe insurance issues $2200
then you have the 2L 4cyl Vit engine, but they are very rare (and I am not selling mine for anything )mega jump in output and conversion costs (they are big) and rego/engineering/insuranse issues.$shit loads

Why not put a chev in then
In my opinion it is about striking a ballance,
the 4A motors (cast iron block)are a strong running reliable engine,
and as the 1.6 Vit's (alloy block)are becoming harder to find ($)they will be even more popular.
But the Vit donk is a sweet conversion in a Sierra and has heaps enough grunt to blow CV's to the shithouse, I cant see the point in making my car heavier to get horsepower I can't use (exept on the street in 2wd)
and if that is your thing well and good, there is nothing wrong with that.
My car pulls like a 13 year old boy with a target underware catalogue,

er, I think you are confoozing me with greg mate, but were talking 60kw and around 120ish nm, so a substantial increase over a carby 1.3.
As to being more "usable" I know that most EFI motors are less happy to "chug" along at below normal idle speed than carbs, but otherwise, I would have though that it would have been all win. Also, the fact that they have a rev limter is noce too - in that the mixtures stay pretty good right up to that point rather than progressively leaning out more and more.

Easiest and best curve for offroad is 1.6 Vitara carby or 8v efi..... 8v efi isnt that common though.

I have put a jimny motor in my WT sierra. It bolted straight up without any problems. To answer christover1 i am not sure if it is a G or M.
Another benefit is the power steering.
The jimny motor is nice & smooth to drive. I run 31" tyres and series 1 rockhopper but would think that the newer series 3 rockhopper would be a vast improvement to onroad drivability in high range.

G is SOHC, M is DOHC?
