Know your oil pressure?
Know your oil pressure?
Does anyone here know what pressure the 4.2 diesels run.
For example @ idle hot and cold and 3000 rpm hot.
Just curious for comparison to check all is well.
I know some of the gregories books give figures but they are normally very low and broad range.
Cheers

Re: Know your oil pressure?
actual figures no, but on the OEM gauge, mine runs at 4 when cold, and down to 2-3 when hot.

They are low but supposedly have high flow which is what takes the heat (friction) away.

with oil due for a change... (penrite diesel oil)
Mine reads 60psi @ cold idle
50+ psi hot @ 2700-3000
and hot idle is around the 30psi mark depends on how hot
been told they drop off a lot when doing hard work like on the sand etc.

For those with factory gauges. If they are the same as mine ('92 diesel)
when the needle is kissing the four mark it is around 50 psi.
But to show the inaccurate nature of the factory gauges, when the motor is cold and running (in my case) 60 psi there is no noticable difference on the factory gauge.

A lot will depend on:- Oil / Type / Viscosity Rating
I run FUCHS Titan 33 15w-40 medium gl4 in a TD42
The OME gauge is a fairly erratic device in the GQ/MAV
I fitted a vdo gauge with oil line.
Reads: - 56 PSI cold 45 to 49 PSI at run temp 32 to 35 at idle hot
Any thing below 15 PSI is serious according to a local diesel expert.
Pretty much the same as fatassgq
