I was gonna buy 4.88's, but figured i might as well buy the 5.29's
Do they fit in my stock cruiser axles? Or should i stick with buying the 4.88's.

I cant comment on the 6.1's but the 5 to 1 stout has a much much smaller pinion than the 411:1 cruiser diff.

I would guess i have removed maybe 30 of these diffs from stouts the early ones not the hilux style and unless they had been converted to cruiser 4.1 gears which was common the only other gears i have ever seen were 6.1s.
These were mostly local Brisbane milko trucks. The dark green ones for those who remember.

Well there is a 4wd shop in West Hedleberg that had 2 sets of them out of a stout in 5 to 1, been there since before 4.88 was avaiable, but he never fitted them and went 4.88 eventually.
The pinion on these is aprox 1/3 smaller dia than a cruiser 411 set.

tony is entirely correct, again, i cannot fault him today! i consulted the factory manual a couple months ago:
