Hi all
Bill, I now have the video of your 6 wheel drive in action. I had forgotten just how amazing it was!!!
Tim G sorted it out today.
I am currently transfering it to digital video so I can edit it and upload it.
Before you all get too exited I must warn you that it is fairly poor quality, black and white. It was made long ago in the early days of analogue video. In fact it was so long ago that you have hair Bill.
Should be up in next few days.

Oh come on Bill, I don't believe that old - I would believe that it was the test bed for the original prototype by Rudolph Diesel though.
Speaking of old things, I saw a mint condition NSU RO80 the other day, I've always wondered how well the manual with automatic clutch system worked. Maybe I can track down the owner and ask for a test drive. Plenty of G-Wagens around here too (not surprisingly).

Hi Ben, I think Austin also tried that auto clutch with manual gearbox trick sometime in the late 1950's but dropped it soon after.
A friend has got a shipping container with 2 101 FC landrovers leaving Britain for Melbourne in a couple of weeks time. Have you got any loose Unimog portals to fill in the gaps with ?
Bill.

unfortunately not. I am still here for another 2 years so wasn't planning on shipping anything back yet. Do you know how much it is costing him (pm me if you don't want to post), and what customs are going to hit him with when it lands?

Nigel, it would be good to see. As far as I know, you can't attach video on this board - have to get someone to host it (should be some members of this board who can do that).

Hi All
Finally got the video of Bill's 6WD up and running.
As I said the video is poor quality. A copy of a copy of a copy of an early 1980's original video.
Bill can provide a commentary on the proceedings.
Regards
Nigel

Bill did you download and save the videos to your computer or are you just opening them on the player?
If you saved them on your drive they should run OK.
If not saved, then right mouse click on the link and select "save target .."

There are hardly enough bits left to photograph, but yes LandyMan, if you have photos from her grave you can post them.
Mike, there wasn't really anything radically new about the truck, even in the 1980's. A French truck manufacturer by the name of Laffly built very similar 6x6's with bumper and belly wheels in the 1930's and 40's. I used to like looking at photos of them articulating up steep banks and through deep holes etc. They inspired me to try to build something like it.
Bill.

Well that is a sad and sorry sight LandyMan. You never know, I am gradually buiding up another pair of portal drop boxes, as spares, but maybe when they are done I might get inspired again. But registration would probably be out of the question these days. In the 1980's, you could get away with much more radically modified trucks, and the police never batted an eyelid.
Bill.
Bill.
thats enough to make a guy cry!
I hate seeing landies just waisting away like that especially when there owner built them to such great hight's. Pitty we all don't have the money to build whole new truck and get to keep the old ones.
And Bill I hope you do get inspired again, your a true artist.
