Removing Leaf Spring Clamp Bolts for FleX

Post by scotto »

Have seen people undo the nuts and bolts on the outer spring restrainer clamps.

Is is effective - and are there pitfalls - like to you have to splay the clamp open to ensure the springs flex back into place??

They are softride leaves under a 40s cruiser...

WHY? All you have to do is fit the bolt type spring clamp instead of the wraparound type. It lets them flex all they need to.

On our Zuks, we tend to remove all the spring clips etc. It works for our light cars (only three leaves) but on anything heaver, I think I would keep the bolted clamps and remove the pressed ones unless it was a bit of a trailer queen.

Straighten up the wrap around and fit a bolt and spacer.
Sometimes if you remove completely the spring will splay too much and come loose under spring seat with wear.
