When just having a play i don't carry a spare motor but when having a play you are not racing the clock nor pushing the limits therefore if the motor is starting to stall you stop and re-rig or add a snatch block. At least with an electric motor you have a fair idea when you are starting to overload it whereas with a pto you don't have much warning at all!

When competing in winch challenges or the Outback Challenge we carry a spare top housing, solenoid pack and motor as you tend to push the winch beyond its limits.

I think you can buy a few shear pins for the price of a motor.

Is the cut snake electric/hydraulic winch the only one in the world?

Surely someone else builds them?
