Christ actually has a set on backorder... and as they say... none are so blind as those that cannot see... and nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak...
Cheezy, Ive been thinking that the roll bar you described is a good idea...

ruff, i went on a night run about 2 months back (early september) with a bloke i know in a maverick (he likes to think it's a patrol), it maverick was lifted a bit, runnin 33inch bfg mt's and had spotties across the roof.
the patrol that i was talking about with the hid lights is a gu ute with an aluminium tray that had been bobbed and the back corners were angled, had twin lockers (i think) and i'm pretty sure he was runnin 36in? simex's

Why does anyone need to see 3km down the track?...
Why does anybody need 500hp?
Why does anyone need 2 feet of suspension travel?
'cos you can
It's the lunacy in life that keeps it interesting
Yes but 500 hp and 2 feet of travel add somewhat to the perfomance of the car.
I know we all do it for fun, but some of these lights the guys are talking about cost over a couple of grand.
I'm sure that could be used to buy a bigger or better set of tyres, or crawler gears or dana 60's or if you want to spend you money on something really important, i know of some Rockwells that will fit straight under MY rig.
But i suppose spotties on the roof do look pretty cool
POS, I didn't intend to have a go at your point of view, sorry if that's how it came across. Accept a virtual shout on the bar from me. Next round is yours, thirsty work here...HOT HOT HOT!
The Patrol came with IPF's, but not a big fan of them. Not that bright. Mate has them and they have cracked twice around the base.
I have replaced them with Hella Rallye 4000's from my old truck. Great light. Great spread beam, and a rock solid mounting system.

i love my hella rallye 4000's! the spread beam does a fantastic job and the pencil lights up the cat eyes for close to a km ahead.. also got some aux hella comet 181's as well but the spread kinda floods them out..
its all good tho when your doin night runs at ormeau with a farm gate full of lights!
Anyway why does anyone need to see 3 km down the track, when your CRAWLING over a rock you only need to see a couple of feet in front.
Yea, i'm just running stocko sealed beams - they are cheap and won't get water in them, and a set of cibie oscar spread beams, they give me a wide, even field of vision and ive still got plenty of light to have an idea of whats in front of me - enough room to stop at speed.
Ive ran spotters before and they were good but i'd tend to focus on the bright spots in the distance and not scan the sides of the road as much, also the glare off of signs pissed me off...
I don't mind the lightforces but didn't want someting hanging forward of my bar as i'd stuff them up.
There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots
We got lightforce 170s on the Jeep, and they are okay...
But have Hella 4000s on the Troopy and they are simply the best lights that I have ever used, they may not be as "bright" as Lightforce 240s (nor look as stupid ) but the quality of the light is shmicko.
I regret putting Lightforce on the Jeep, should have bout another set of Hellas.
They are pretty good. I've used my mates lightforce 240's with the same wiring etc and reckon they were no better.........and they vibrated like a sl_t when on corrugations!
Going to upgrade to either ralleye 2000's or 4000's
Anyone know what those Hella Hypolux spotties go like? I think they'd be ok cause I understand it's just a different casing with an already existing lense.
I've got a set of LightForce 240 Blitz on the 80 series and they are fantastic, set them to wide angle or spot, your choice or anything inbetween. The only problem is when you go to low beam, it's like you're driving in the dark! They are good.
1 concept that needs attention by manufacturers is the theft option. Too many of these are getting pinched and they need to come out with a locking device to stop the little boys doing five finger discounts. They won't stop the pros but they are a real minority, just need to stop the boy with a shifter and pliers.

What I have found works well is if you replace the mount bolts with longer ones then get a washer and weld a piece of tube onto it. That makes it so you need a deep socket to remove. Like you say most thieves will just have shifter or pliers.
Paul.
Just put a down payment that would buy a house but I've got:
2x lightforce XGT's on winch bar
2x lightforce 240 blitz on roll bar
2x lightforce 170's on roll bar
and for people that piss me off from behind I've got a pair of lightforce 140's as reversing/work lights on roll bar facing backwards
And before you ask, yes I hate the dark.

The 170's will be a waste, you wont see them thru the other 4 lights.

Pauls Idea is a good one, and agree, they willusually only have a shifter.
But I think Lightforce now have some lock thing on their site.
The 170's didn't cost me anything and they look good. I'm angling them out for tight tracks. The XGT's on the winch bar will be for normal nightly driving cause I've got 2 trays. One for everyday driving/touring and one for comps.
