Damnitt!

Post by Justin_M »

Well after some "spirited" driving ive developed a coolant leak!

Its external, and i can see it dripping off the front of the oil pan, so my guess is the water pump gasket/seal. Do these tend to go under a hard slog when there a bit old? And am i looking at an expensive part here?

Grrr gonna have to get up early in the morning and have a look... at the huge green puddle on my driveway

after some poking in the daylgiht, its a leak between the pump and the block. Was gonna get a new pump, but some places want upto $300! this one isnt even corroded, so a new nissan gasket for $4.50 will do me nicely :p

$300 isnt that much for a part that lasts 12-15 yrs eh.

Check its not from the bearing relief hole.
if so new pump. Try Repco and use sealant.

I had similar and i thought it was the gasket but on removal i found it was actually yeah the relief hole meaning a seal inside is dead.

I swear buy silicone gaskets.Paper just ends up leaking.I buy it from super cheap for $22 (blue one) put it in a caulking gun and you have a complete gasket kit,Sump repair kit,Radiator repair kit,The list goes on.Never leave home without it or my fencing pliers!

Yeah i checked her out once i got it off, the leak was definatly comming from the gasket, the hole for water to come out when the shaft seal is u/s was dry as a bone. Couple of new gaskets and some loctite number 3 and shes as good as gold again.

Was actually really suprised how good it looked, previous owner actually used anti-freeze/rust inhibitor i guess!

Belive those pumps are rebuildable on the diesels, i bough a second hand one that had all new seals put through it, works perfect, even snapped a bloddy bolt in the the block which i still have to get out, but no leaks yet just got to keep an eye on it....
