I have finaly started the hunt for new tyres/tires. I'm totally
bamboozled already
I checked out the new Procomp outlet in Ringwood, learnt that the
Motorway Mongrels now come in a retread option,
but only on 31 x 10.50 15's at $149 ea.
The Monoform Mongrel(full remould) in a 32 x 10.50 x 15 is $189
each. (one side is not covered as white lettering on original cases
is not suitable for moulding over)
I noted that the Simex 32 x 10.50 x 15 ET was only 90 bucks more at
$280 per tyre.
Simex MT centipedes are around $140 new, but there is no supply at
moment, so price is subject.
Motorway Monoform mudders (full remould) are $115 and the retread
version is $100 per tyre.
The swampers and mtr's and procomps were out of my reach, so didn't
write them down.
I still considering 2nd hand tyres, as less stressful if damaged

I have these tyres. they work really well in anything clay. mine are a remould on both sides. no white lettering or anything like that.
Mine are now starting to bag ok, but is taken a while, and they only start to once i'm down to 8psi or lower. i think they're softened up a lot with time. or maybe it was just me driving them at low pressures on the highway.
I had the motorway muds on my Vitara. They worked pretty well on most surfaces. I tried to trash them as best i could and they have kept going.
They are 30x9.5 15's a little smaller than what you are after i know but you're most welcome to borrow them for a bit if you want to try them out.

A friend here had the Standard Simex MT's on his Jeep... they're actually a small 31"... barely scraping past 30" (But in the Aus4wdmonthly you'll notice that's a common issue these days).
Other than that they worked real good and they were really cheap.
Wish they made them in a 33" too... cos for the price I'd be first in line.

Frog will be fine on road, as its slightly low geared at the moment, but low range needs lowering anyway, will happen one day, just not quickly, so thats why I thinkinking a max of 32" measured...christover

I have the 32" full remould Mongerals on my sierra which are an awesome tyre offroad but a little interesting on road in the wet and quite loud too.
The sidewall is bloody thick nearly 16mm and with the tyre pressures down to 6 psi they do not bag much, but the tread contact pattern does elongate to nearly 2.5 times its 35psi size

IMHO Chris, most of your off road problems are not related to tyre diameter but gearing. Personally, I would search for a 2nd hand series 1 RH (within your tyre budget) and find another freebe/cheap set of 31's.
The more traction you add with nice new luggy 31+'s, the more trouble you will have with your marginal gearing. I recko you are already pushing the car much harder than necessary just becuase of teh lack of gearing, more tyre will not help. As it is, you often only keep making progress up stuff ATM due to wheelspin. If it grips, you stall. More tractio will not help this at all.
Just my 2c worth.

not interested in a S1 hopper anymore, can't trust them, gotta be an S3 or a 4:1 of another make, I got spoiled driving young Micks with his new 6:1..I surprised its quite driveable on road with the 30's still on...me need tread first, its more noticeable to the boysin blue than lack of gearing..though am still looking into 2nd hand rubber. christover

have 31 ET simex, measure close to 32 pumped right up. asking $900 for set of four on new 8" rims. 98% tread still got dag things on side lugs. ask stumped he's seen them and they havn't moved since.
personal opinion (disclaimer so I don't start an argument) they seem to be a better (read softer) compound than the mongrels good for rocks, and the tread is a bit taller than the mongrels I've seen.

clearly new Simex ET's have to outperform a rebuilt Mongrel....but it will be a cost thing...your tyres are a fair price, but I dont need rims (I have 8" rims with a 65mm offset change) and added to shipping costs would make it better for me to buy new with fitting, balancing and warrantee..but thanx for the offer, christover.

the tread blocks on the mongrels also looks to be alot further spaced. I would imagine this would mean not as much contact with the ground.?germo wrote:

The Swampers are a little smaller than what I was after (the tyres previously on there were 33s) but they'll do me just fine for the moment. I'm so keen to get the old girl back out there now
I think I saw your zuk in Gosford today, about 8:45am?
