HID H1 kit in spotties
Am intending to put a 5000K H1 HID kit (off ebay) in some Lightforce 140's for a windscreen mounted BAF (Bright As F%^$) solution.
Anyone tried this before ?
Not sure if it would cook the plakky lense/cover...

Here's a link to the ones I found on ebay. Bit more than I thought but not to bad.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 64758&rd=1
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 78101&rd=1
the first one seems the better off the 2. Not sure why there is such a large price differance.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
I wouldn't buy 8000K inserts. They will be really purple which will greatly reduce the amount of visible light output.
They will also attact a lot of attention from the boys in blue. And with possibly non-ADR compliant lighing you do not need this.
Get 4-5000K for maximum visibility and less chance of being stopped.

They r to be used for offroad only (in LF 140's) so plod ain't an issue. Just concerned if the front will become a molten puddle of plastic or go yellow.
Was also concerned the ebay jobs are for streeters with not much thought to weatherproofing. Spose being on windshield hinges they will be protected from most water/mud that could cause probs.
ef32, $86 a pair ? Pretty sure we're not talking the same thing. Poss yours is an upgraded IPF H1 bulb and not a true HID.
eg LF HIDs are $1000 rrp ea. They also have a little box of magic attached to each (transformer??) to get the 1000's of volts needed to make them work whilst only drawing 35w actual power

To get the full advantage of HID tech the reflector and the lense is i vital part of a HID lighting system . By simply retrofitting a HID globe system into an existing light will not give the full performance of a purpose built HID light assembly as it was put previously you get what you pay for.

Are these not the HIR inserts which are an IPF speciality? They produce more light than halogen, but less than HID. But the price is right!

Yeah agreed. That's why I want them for my lf 140's and not my skanky 3 yo nitestalkers
Does anyone know if HIDs put out more/less heat ?
It's less Watts but more CP so not sure of heat ?

Provided the HID lamp envelope is in the same position as the original globe filament the performance will be the same other than the 'polarisation' of a halogen lamp is no longer an issue.
LF still use the same materials in the lens and reflector for their HID's as their halogen lamps so there wont be a problem in that respect.
Finding the length for a HID lamp in the LF might be an issue you need to check, back into the body of the light i mean.
Find out where the ballasts are made and what sort of connectors they are using. If the ballasts aren't hella or made in germany (korean or se asian) I would be cautious, and if the connectors aren't 'weatherpack' type like on most efi gear with a labarynth seal they wont be much chop in a 4by.
For a second opinion, have a chat to Frank Tidswell at Xenonoz. Knows lots and is very helpful. I have no affiliation with him, but have bought product of him and was happy with price, service and info.
