engine swap

Post by Luv to 4B »

I have a 2.8 D (3L) 1990 sr5 lux. ive been looking at the 1KZ-TE motor out of the new hilux, old prado and surf. has anyone done this swap or know anyone that has that could give some advice as to what its like.
Any advice would be appreciated. IF i do, do it i will be buying a whole wreck not just motor and gearbox so i have everything, like wiring loom, computer and everything. I looked at a wreck yesterday and structurally it doesn't look that hard, the electrics i think will be a bitch but who knows. As i said any thoughts on the viability of this conversion, or even the 1KZ-TE motor would be great. The reason i have chosen this motor is coz i want to stay with diesel but want more grunt.

Thanks in advance.

already have my comments re the 1KZ-TE swap from general tech I think.

wondering out loud: would be cool if you could get your hands on a 1KD 3 litre direct injected diesel which I believe is available in prados in Japan. potential for far more reliable power than the 1KZ.

cheers
