Heating up sierra

Post by leafyhead »

:) 92 sierra 1.3ltr motor clean through out ,new thermostat, radiator ok.Now coming south along Stocko beach temp was 3 needle widths of the red and when accelerator pushed to keep going pinging like mad.Tyres at 12psi,using low range 3rd and 4th around 3000rpm to about 3800.Should i put thermo fan on to assist cooling cause im also running premium unleaded which has cured on road pinging timing 7deg new timing belt etcetc??This is just my missus fishing car but i dontreally want to do damage to the motor so any ideas???

If you have a thermo fan then yes of course you should use it. You're putting a bit of a strain on the engine going by what you said so any help in keeping it cool will be good.

Where on stocko you running, i have driven stocko a bit, and grew up in belmont, and found that belmont south beach was a bit softer than stocko on the actual beach part, not the dunes. Last weekend my zook was a bit over half at the most playin in the dunes with STUMPED, REDZOOK and RB ZOOK.

 Well i went up Stocko last night from 4.30 to 8pm and running up to Williamstown temp was 1/3 up from cold, then 10psi in tyres out and down the beach towards Sygna and temp gotjust over 1/2 so i will just find a thermo and whack it on and go from there.10 degrees timing and if you labour it it starts to ping but at 7 it seems ok so i will leave it there.
Thanks for input guys.

Thats factory spec isnt it .. I never had much lucl with any sierra motor at factory timing, gutless and would ping it's head off .. (Almost literally)

How good condition is the cooling system ..
I would say you would be better off spening some $$ on the rad amking sure it is clean and flowing well.
I never had heating issues with min even on 35's with a 1.6 (unless the rad was full of mud)

 Reverse flushed, then some of that powder cleaner stuff and water was nearly drinkable. One thing i havent looked at is the heat range of the spark plugs fitted.Ill slowly get to the end of it as i only paid $1500 with 2nd hand donk with185 psi in the cyl good tyres 4 small rust holes in floor and a perfect rust free windscreen suround and cowl area.
I will get this small thing sorted, and its good to hear from people that have worked/tinkerd etc on Suzis to get some of their hard earned knowledge. Thanks
