Yeah I have heard that a Maxi-Drive rear steer conversion alone is $20k. Some people must have serious money to throw around. It would have 110 CV's all round so you would be breaking them all the time.

Thanks for correcting me Mick - that explains why the rear steer conversion is so $$$$$.

Sorry - no more pics...

I kept that one cos it was soooo impressive - 101 CV lust

They are rare in NZ a friend drives one and he gets 90% of his 101 specific parts from England. Hes never broken one by the way and his is repowered with a Disco3.9V8 and 38" TSL's. The boy has a heavy right as well.

Ok...here's my input (for what it is worth!)

The portals are great for ground clearance, but they also raise the COG quite a lot. If you look at the trend in rock crawling, where the COG is a key point, the trend is to use the smallest sized axles that have been modified in a way to accomodate the biggest axles possible. That is a Danan 44 on 37s will ourperform a Dana 60 on 37s (excluding the shaved ones).

To put portals on a Rover, you will gain in 15cm clearance and 17cm in width (with MD portals). The ratio I am trying to abide by, expecially with a Rover is 1:2, i.e. for every 1" lifted, 2 widened, since we all know that the Rovers are narrow (which is an advantage sometimes in woods and so forth).

The ideal formula is low lift, tall tires, wide stance. That is what we are trying to do. The 5" lift in the portals will also affect your engine's hight, and hence your COG.

Just my input.
