Ok, so i've gone IFS and not regretting it, and it seems to be ample for moderate off roading, and better for my highway driving, but i want to know what i can do to stregnthen and maybe give it a bit more travel it for when i am out on the hard offroad tracks.
EDIT: Rather then start a new topic, i'll include this question. i will probably need new set of tyres in a couple of months, and i'm running a 2.4 diesel. should i stick with 31's, or get 32's or 33's. what i'm worried about is how well the little diesel will be able to push bigger tyres

SAS
well, apart from offloading the 3 grand for an SAS! lol
ive got an ifs too, there is absolutely nothing you can do to to get any real increase in wheel travel, you can lift them a couple of inches, and you can cut down the bumpstops to gain about an inch more travel, im going to take the gas axe to my ifs and convert it to a solid axle set up wih leaf springs, ifs diffs are also weak as piss, ive blown 4 of em.
You wont notice much differance in power going to 32s but 33s do drag it down a bit.
What gears have you got in the diffs? Throw in some 4.88s to bring it back to stock gearing with 33s. That will help.
Paul.
It's easy to get more droop from an IFS setup... install some top ball joint spacers. You can get 25mm thick (or thicker) aluminium, cut it to suit, and stick 'em in between the top wishbone and ball joint. Therefore for the same ride height, you can back off the torsion bars, which with cut bumpstops, will give you anywhere from 1-2" more droop.
Have a look at the Techsite section of the Toyota Surf forum, www.toyotasurf.asn.au which explains how to do it.

ive done this modification with the ball joint spacers, you have to put spacers under the diff too for it to work, its still not a big increase in wheel travel
I did all these mods too and ran 35's on my Surf and got good wheel travel but in the end the only way to keep the treads on the ground was to get CHEEZY to SAS me up It's a beautifull thing and who cares about the cost ...... start a SAS fund and start saving Cheers
