Just purchased my first 40 . Will be posting some pics soon. I'm chasing a jump seat for the back of my new FJ 40. Wondering what is the best, heard a Suziki serria back seat fits. Also where do you get them certified. Any help would be great.
I got a folding seat made and installed c/w seat belts, child restraint clips an an engineers certificate for about $1,100, but I since found out off this forum that yes a suzuki seat is a good option and alot cheaper. Dont know how you will go with the engineered side though.
dunno what mines out but its 1300mm wide fits 3 ppl without seatbelts pulled it outta the back of a toyota van its supposed to fold up against the front seats but dont work properly in the 40 but folds flat so can stack stuff ontop of it easily
thinking about selling it cause i dont really want it but its in poor condition needs to be recovered
I would have thought it would also depend on what sort of roll over protection you would have there too. My roll bar is the usual /| shape to suit my soft top that comes down on a slant. (hard to explain, hope u get it). So there would be very little protection for any rear passengers. My 40 came with a rear seat (not fitted though) but I just bolted in a toolbox coz I dont plan on modding my rollbar and soft top to carry passengers. If you like drop me a pm and u can come have a look at the seat I have. I dont have seat belts for it though.
ive got a suzuki rear seat in mine paid 140 for it , folds down then up behind the front seats still have room to use in the back . ring transport for some ones number to mod plate it .
can someone tell me the width of these suzuki seats??
the reason mine wont fold up against the seat is cause its really wide and its designed to fold down against the floor but the wheel arches are in the way
I think ive got the same problem as ray185 with the factory roll bars but mines a hardtop and I haven't found an old jumpseat yet...
anyway.. the guys a got the 40 off had put in recaro's and had kept the phat half of the front bench seat. I've just used some existing holes re-inforced with a 2"square bit of steel from bunnings and the other side used one of the roll bar mounts+bolts.
For the overhang I used a bit of curtain rod bent into a rectangle and bolted to the floor and under the seat so it had a little support when it was in use.... is that what you'd call booty fab?
Needless to say I never got it mod plated, although my rego sez ive got a 3 seater and my mod plate sez 2 so who knows ..... maybe i dont need one!
The old seatbelt is attached to both seat mounts. i had it in for a few months and it only got used a handful of times but it still kinda worked. I think the person sitting in the back was pretty high up and occasionally might of hit their heads on any bumpy stuff but i hated being a taxi anyway.. so bugger em!
i have one seat per side kind so that the passengers face each other in the back. I had no rollbar thou. Its engineered and registered as a 7 seater. Beat that for a shorty. Seats are in the shed, still working out if i want to keep them or not.
a guy who rents my place from me put the third row seats from an old pajero in his 40. seemed to work quite well. they fold up to the side, leaving the back open for space. may be the third row seats from a 80 series or 100 series might work too. probably a bit pricey though.
