Hilux gearbox final drive ratio???

Post by tomsoffroad »

Can anyone tell me what the gear ratios in the w56 5 spd and the g51 4 spd?
Looking at putting a 4 spd in the Surf as the 5spd sounds like it is about to shit itself.
I'm running 35's with 5.29:1 diffs and would like some lower gearing.

Cheers
Thomas

Look at the Dellows site for most of the Toyota box ratios (page 3 onward):

http://www.dellowauto.com.au/catalogue/ ... motive.pdf

Seems most of the 5 spd boxes have 0.85 final gearing, however if you are looking for a low first gear ratio, the W59 has 3.95 ratio, and pretty sure the R154 (big case Supra box) was similar.

Check the length of the 4 speed box it may be shorter and you will then have to change drive shaft lengths.

I have a 5spd G52 that I fitted the 4.31 1st gear into instead of the standard 3.96 1st gear

I have found a couple of f these odd combos in Japan
G52 with 4.31 1st gear with the standard 14% overdrive also
G52 with 28% over drive
I have one of these in my old Hilux with a 4.3 litre Chev V6 in it
