Ello all, I`ve got a query, I fitted a Detroit locker to my 110 yesterday and had a set of suposedly heavy duty GKN axles to go in as well, but the axles I pulled out had longer splines and were the same size, except for the raised portion, so I threw em back in again as they had no spline wear, I wish I`d had a STD one to compare it with to see what I`ve got.
Here`s a few pics of the two axles, I have a feeling the supposedly HD GKN`s are actually STD salisbury, they all measured up between 1.175 and 1.190, my origional ones also had a few markings as well, that someone might reconise.
Longer splines VS raised portion

A few more markings
Any ideas of what they are, STD or sometime better?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Just to clarify, when Bill say "Defender" he is talking of the later style axles versus "110" which are the earlier style axles. The newer axles have narrower hubs and thus shafts.
If you are putting a Detroit in, make sure you install quality AFTERMARKET shafts unless you like breaking them. I would suggest Maxidrive in this instance as you are staying 24 spline. Some other brands have been known to break.
