10 or 24 spline axles??

Post by up2nogood »

Just wondering if any one knows what spline axles an Oct 93 built S1 Disco would be running?

I removed the front hub cap and the stub is 24 spline.
As for the inner front?

And I don't want to unbolt the rear hubcap to find out if I don't have too......

Thanks guys! (and gals).

my guess would be 24s all round... 10 splined ceased on Discos in May 93...does it have the 3.9?

24spline axles have the flatter flanges on the end, while the 10spline have a higher profile and are more rounded. From top of my head without being near my car, I would guess the 24spline flange has a ~20mm profile while 10spline are closer to ~40mm.

If you've got 24 spline stub axles, then you've got inner axles with 24 splines at the diff centre, and 32 at the cv end. The cv and stub axle is one piece with a drive flange on the end of the hub.

The earlier setup had inner axles with 10 spline diff centre, 23 spline cv end.
The cv was seperate from the stub axle, which had 10 splines going into the cv.

So if you can see 24 splines under your cap, you can assume the inner axles are 24/32 spline inners!

Thanks guys, looks like I got the right one as far as axles go (until they snap).

It's a 3.9.

Although I reckon I might just toss in some Jac Mac hypoid lockers.....

Go to the Sticky FAQ and read about the 32 spline cv's.
