Wheel mounting surface.

Get a Ruler or similar and hold it against the rim then measure the gap between it and the wheel mounting surface.

Drafty,

When you get a spare minute, could you measure from the WMS to the outer edge of the 80 series rim? Please....

Thanks,

Paul.

If an 80 series rim is 115mm backspace and 115mm from WMS to the outer edge doesn't that add up to a 230mm/9" rim?
I thought they were 16X8?
an inch in or out can be a huge difference in terms of fit.

That is pretty bizarre? It goes against everything the RTA tells you are allowed to do, ie: nothing bigger than 8" wide on a passenger vehicle. Someone at toyota must be p1ssing themselves laughing about the aussie laws....

no i know what is happening here, drafty had no clue what WMS meant, so he clearly has no idea, you measure from bead seating area to WMS and just measured outside of rim to WMS

DUDE, measure from

bead mounting surface to WMS and get back to us ;)

Carlton, aus laws are WRONG!!

but the thickness of the centre + 2x the bead lip could probably equal close to 1"

thats a 8" wheel from bead seat surface to bead seat (your second picture shows this very well)

again i am correct, and i never implied your WMS was an inch thick

measure the total rolling diameter of your rim, ill bet you get like 17" or more

and remember it aint a 17" its measured again from bead seat area to bead seat, so yeah, pretty easy once you have it figured, i meant a frontal picture of the rim but looking at them if they are from an 80 series, id say mid 1990s GXL wheel, 16"x8"!

I believe the tape measure is a starrett 8m/26' model commonly available at hardware stores at the bottom end of the quality scale for around $15-$20 8)

That measuring tape was purchased from Marysville on Sat morning for $7, 1 hour before the Pajero Challenge start time. Don't knock it ,it works fine no matter how cheap.
