You sure you can fit a 35-36" tyre under there?
It looked pretty tight under there when I had my 33" spare in mine.

A q78 is narrow for it's height, and you mighth be able to under rim it (recommended 7", go to a 6" say) to squish it up a bit more, but I know that the MT117's crown up a treat on a 6" rim and would have to be pretty narrow.
I think you are forgetting 9.00 x 16's though - a mildly agressive truck drive tyre would be fine and on a 6" rim it will be REALLY narrow, also between 35-36" tall. My dad used to run a 8.25 16 as a spare with 9 34 16 swampers an a split rim - It was fine and pretty cheap.
