2 inch spring lift on GQ
Just picked up a set of 2 inch coils for the Shortie GQ ( thanks holeyhardtop )
Put em in yesterday arvo and now i have the slightest vibration at about 25kms and again at about 50kms.......
really light deep low vibration...
i thought that i wouldnt need any mods when doing the spring lift....
how would i go about fixing this vibration easily and cheaply???

2in shouldnt need the transfercase touched, but could be tailshaft related, with the extra angle, it will exentuate any issues with unis.. EG if they are on the way out, they will show up more now.
If it was all fine beforehand then I'd say space down the box bit. You can buy a kit for this for about $45 if you're not keen on fishing around for identical washers in the bucket under the workbench

There's always possibilities it's related to something that's indirectly linked like an stuffed engine mount rubber. Worth checking this out too, common GQ problem.
When I lifted mine I replaced both (stuffed) engine mount rubbers and made sure I regreased all shafts and bearings, so I knew that these were all good.
An update on mine today.... I actually did the alignment some 4 months later.
The big issue with the GQ's is the variability - many SWB get away with 3" no probs (and LWB 4"), but buying a 3" kit and then having issues is never good. Thats why I only went 2".
Of course, some ignore the problem anyway.
Alignment done on mine today even 2" is actually slightly too much lift... cant quite get correct castor adjustment on the front right, but front left could easy go up another inch and some....
I've had my lift on for a few months without alignment so I'm kinda thinking well... it was ok lifted 50mm without re-alignment I'm sure I can sqeeze some 15mm coil spacers in now... that's only 1/3 the change that I never adjusted before so it wont be that bad.

thats the thing with shortys, some crumb on here says he has a 6in lift with no mods no hassles.. Me calls bullshit.
Have seen a few with 2in start vibarating others with 3inch and not shake 1 bit.
tis a lottery with shortys.. you may be lucky..

to add to this, after driving it today, between 65-85 k's, if I feather the throttle, it makes a grinding sound? weird shit, anyone experienced this?
check out my members thread.. vipers mav shorty. i have 5 inch suspension under mine which is auto, and just fitted a 2 inch body lift..still using standard shaft. vibes are due to tailshaft angles after lifting. u need to get ur pinnion angles right to eliminate vibes. i used cheezy longer bomb proof trailing arms, rotates the pinnion down to suit the angle of the output from the gearbox. works a treat. there are products to eliminate vibes. if i was doin my lift again id use the lifted engine mounts and longer arms that cheezy sells..wont need x member packers that way.

the Grinding noise is due to angles.
Ur slide joint in the middle of your shaft is vibrating large enough at high speed to do it. You will find it only grinds like that at higher speeds.
At lower speeds it ust vibrates like normal.
Also,
LWB and SWB do it,
But the SWB does it more easily under a smaller lift, as the driveshaft is shorter and the angle gets greater very quickly in SWB.

how much $ we talking here?
also, can the vibes / grinding cause any damage to anything if I leave it for 2 weeks?
I too am on a very tight budget with my vehicle , and was rather suprised that I am still having the vibration problems after using the gearbox packers, and this is only a 2" lift.
Probably wouldnt be so bad if we had the aftermarket goodies readily available like you do over there, but in saying that, I dont think the missus would like a 2nd mortgage taken out on the house to pay for all my new cheezy gear
