Where should i get my lock rite from?
Where should i get my lock rite from?
i've sorta finally got enough money for a locker, only now i need some info on where to get it from.
i know people wont be open for the next week, but if i can get the info now, i'll be able to chase it up and see how much it'll all cost.
i know some people got their locker(s) from the states, but which company was it again? i also read the lock right without side couplers is stronger/lasts longer, true or false?
thanks in advance
steve

just went to rocky road site, lockrite with NO side couplers is $327.4844AUD with current exchange rate.
thats with air mail.
$320.6737 AUD for surface mail. like $7 difference. will customs get me too?
this can't be the cheapest? or can it....

I just posted this in general tech It was from Rocky Road. Is 320 to much for you still kills the local price
FYI I imported a lockright from the US for my suzuki recently. It was an online purchase from an aftermarket 4wd business in the states, imported privately. Due to the weight of the thing (bugger all) it only cost $30 postage by air mail.
The total cost delivered to my door was $299 australian I'll soon order another because really how can you beat that It took 5 weeks to deliver, usually 3 but they were out of stock at my time of order.
You risk copping an extra duty tax of $100 at customs too but they rarely put that on packages of small weight and value. Hence import one at a time
Free trade agreement should have started today. Worst you should be up for is about $60 in GST and inspection fees.
Last I was looking these were about $189-239 US at places like calmini, trail tough etc , but a quick check shows them at $239 at calmini right now. There's often specials though.
Roadlessgear do them for $215 US which is about $280 Australian right now.

Trail tough want $199 US or $99 for the mini spool

if you can understand a 'cam' action, its not too hard to understand how the locker works.
i've had difficulty explaining this to someone in person, dont think i should attemp to do it in writing.
basically it usues the carrier centre pin/cross shaft to force the two centre couplers out and locking in the side gears to the carrier. if you look closely at the link above and the pic it shows, the channel in which the cross shaft sits does not fit exactly on the crass shaft, and so when the carrier turns the cross shaft. it forces the centre couplers out locking in the side gears........
well i know what i'm talking about, so sorry if you still dont understand, maybe someone else can explain it better.

Have you thought about welding the rear ?
NUMEROUS times. the only thing is, i dont know of anyone who has experience in welding diffs, and cos i live so far away from everyone (darwin) getting another centre/axles will be hard and a PITA.
if i knew of someone who is good and experienced with welding diffs up here, i would have done it already. a couple of people want $200 to weld the diff, and the diffs they've welded have been for holden utes and geminis, and most have broken.
there is an engineering shop up here that does a lot of driveshaft repairs and mods, and they can weld diffs alright, but was about $350.
so it just makes more sense in getting a lockright locker, and waiting for it, as i've been waiting for the past year to get at least one end locked on the vit.
anyone in DARWIN who can weld diffs good let me know. i can supply a carton or two.

They're available at rocky road not roadless gear as I put up there earlier. Price is $99 US.
Less likely yo break than a welded unless the guy really fills it up with good weld, and completely reverseable.

thanks for the info guys, i have it all saved on my PC, but unfortunately, i can't get one now.
i had to divert half of the 'locker fund' to the 'weber carby install'.
hopefully in a couple of months time i may have anough for a locker then, but then theres that performance cam some people got me thinking about.
oh well, joys of being a tight a$$ student. may have to invest in a months worth of those 2 minute noodles again.
thanks again
