This is on a 93 petrol efi GQ , Mines got a hitachi 70 amp on it and its playing up and whines now .Ive pulled it apart and replaced the bearings ( 5 bucks each ), but its still whining.Rather than waste any more time with it ive been considering upgrading any way. As im running dual batteries and a 8000 high mount and 4 spottys its probably long over due. Any one got some ideas or advice on which auto elec to go to, Im in sth east suburbs melb . even better try to get a commodore or falcon one to fit these are around 120-130amps. And I would expect toe be pretty vheap at the wreckers. If the brackets arnt even close. You maybe able to get the insides just changed over. And run something like a commodore alt insides in the GQ houseing.
I have heard this mentioned on here before.

THE STANDARD COMMODORE ALTERNATORS ARE 85 AMPS. YOU NEED ONE OFF A VT V8, THEY ARE 120 AMPS.

I heard of some guys ( I think it was one of the Hall brothers) using some big ****off alternater on his GQ. When he wanted to do some metal work to the rig he apparently just unplugged the wiring off the back and plugged in the angle grinder etc and started the car and ran it with a few revs and went to town with the angle grinder. Anyone heard of or done this????

Got an email back from unipower on the alternator based welder/ power outlet. This price was based on their new AC 3000Watt kit.

For your info the basic kit (un-installed) cost approximately $3750/-
ex-factory.
