4runner to single cab

i'm keen to put a single cab hilux body on the 4runner chassis.

from a legality point of view what is required?
does the body need to made in the same year as the chassis?
does it require engineering or simply blue slip?


reasons for looking at doing this is because the current body is a little worse for wear and it's time to get a ute. i reckon that it would work well and look awesome on the shorter wheel base. you thought and opinions please.

Thought about that before and could of got a 2WD Extra cab for $50 would of been alright

Would look good, would cutting your cab an making it an xtra cab be an option with a tray, only thing about single cabs is F all space in them, but would look good. is an extra cab in for sale section, but needs fixing and respraying, which is why I left it alone.

There is an xtra cab styleside of a 2000 lux in wollongong for sale if you wanted to go this way, I reckon it would look sweeet!

Thats what i was told by RTA when i was gonna replace my x-tra cab with a duel cab

This may be the case in NSW but here in QLD you can fit an earlier model cab as long as the cab meets all the same ADR requierments as the original cab.

It is a simple swap if you are using a single cab im pretty sure you just move one set of mounts forward. When using an extra cab you need to run a Body lift of 1.5" as the Hourseshoe crossmember hits the cab.

Im about to fit an 85 extra cab body to an 84 4runner frame but will either re-fabricate the crossmember or move it as i dont plan to run a body lift.

was thinking a single cab with flat tray, possible 4-link rear and bobbed chassis. just what i'm thinking as a possibility

I was thinking of doing this myself. What about the complience plate, does it not state 5 passengers?? So would you not have to re-engineer it for 2 passangers??

I have done this with a single cab. It is better to use a cab from the came gen so says my engineer. The third mount back has to to moved back about 6 inchs, all the rest bolts up. As Ruff said its all easy to be approved it QLD, don't know about WA or NSW. Its just plated as a two seater.

Just about finished work on the cab. Preping it for paint this week. Still got lots to go after that though, bar work and shiat. Don't want to take it out till its 100%.

ok, i've done some research and it breaks down like this.
it has to engineered.
it then has to go over the pits at the rta.

in conversation, i've heard of trucks being passed for the body swap but then failed on the modification and the RTA then chasing the engineer that ceritfied the work. so, it'll be easier to do it on a non modified 4wd, get it passed, then go nuts with the mods if your engineer is happy. it leaves me up sh1t creek, maybe something to think about next time round
