Hydraulic clutches??

Post by Whitey »

I've put in a toyota 4AGE engine into my suzuki sierra and it has a celica 5spd behind it that has a hydraulic clutch instead of the normal cable one. Problem is, after the conversion, there is hardly any clutch, and I'm having trouble bleeding the system. It seems like i've bled a few litres through it but it doesn't help. Have other people had this problem, or am I over looking something simple??? There is just enough clutch pressure to put it into gear and change up gears but I can't change back gears (eg 3rd to 2nd) any ideas or other techniques to bleed the system?

maybe your slave cylinder rod is too short?

maybe your pedel is hitting the floor before the full stroke of the master cylinder., try adjusting the push rod into the master cylinder longer, and rais the upper stop of the clutch pedal

did you bench prime the master cylinder?

you can prime the hydrolic piping while its in the car if you use a syringe (big one obviously)

takes about 30 seconds to bleed the system if you bench prime the cylinder and system, or it willt ake 15-20 minutes of you pumping like crazy.

you are probably doing it, its just taking a long time.

Yeah, the clutch is fine. Everything worked before the conversion, it looks like Shadow's in the know. The pin that locks the slave cylinder rod to the clutch pedal was missing/fallen out so the pedal is traveling too much before pushing into the cylinder... Thanks for your help..

Could you please explain exactly how you bench prime the master cylinder, I'm having trouble with mine and I'm thinking this may be the cause. Thanks.
