You reckon a 9" is strong enough?? I just pulled one out of the back because it wasn't up to the task.

BTW, I only want a front diff, I already have converted a chev diff into the back.

A high pinion 9" with 60 outers can be built very strong.
You can go up to 40 spline shafts and the 9" is built for top fuel dragsters etc.
They can be built massively strong.

Read some of sunrays site and/or send them an email:

Yep some of the J trucks had them, but I believe the majority were closed knuckle.
If anyone wants a good read JP magazine has some articles recently about turning rear dana 60's into fronts with step by step pics and instructions and a parts list of what they used.

You should be able to find JP magazine at bigger newsagents.

a dana 44 will not stand up to 44s and big power unless it is only driven on the street.i can get a d60 here for $500-$600 us but the shipping is terrible.i checked on having a mq axle sent from there and the lowest i found was $900 us.what rear axle are you running?all the d60 fronts have 8 lug wheels and need a 16" rim to clear the brake calipers.you might be able to have a gq front axle widened and custom axle shafts made which would be stronger than a d44.if you want help finding a d60 here let me know and i can find one for you.

I have converted a chev 14b ff for the rear, and have fitted k20 chev HD knuckles to the front d44. they are 8 lug as well. I have clearanced (with a grinder!) the caliper to fit 15" rims. thanks for the offer of finding a d60, I may look at shipping. how much to send an axle to california?from alaska?

1st- you would have to grind almost 1/2" off the caliper to fit a 15" rim,not real safe.
2nd -shipping to L.A. Calf. would be $200-$300 US then what ever it is to get it to you.
3rd-would you need a right or left side drop? do you have a US ford or chevy t case?
for small parts i could just mail them which would probly be faster and cheaper than a shipping company.
i can be reached at 1-907-770-9034 ask for mike

with my k20 brakes, I only ground off at the most 1/8th. probably less. the k30/f350 must be bigger.

i need left drop, to suit ford np205. i agree about the small parts, but i have a guy who exports containers from la.

the d44 caliper is about 1/2 the size of a d60 caliper.i will see what a ford d60 will cost and what the shipping cost to la is.i am building a fj60 for a customer that we put a d60 front and a d70 rear under it and have to run 16s on it to clear the calipers and they almost dont clear.

dana 60 secret - hush , hush - don't tell anyone

Post by Xtremitys »

guess what , dana 60's are all over the joint , you seek and you shall find. I rang a few Ftruck wreckers from around this country , actually emailed them asking if they had any dana 60's and 4 out of 5 said they have. the going price for a stock rear drum to drum is around $800-$900 , more for a disk brake version.

I even chatted to someone a little while ago in perth ( another forum ) and he told me he had about 4 of them in his backyard , i was going to get one until i found out how much it cost to frieght it to brisbane , theres ample around . I have a copy/s of danas official codes for all diffs that came out of dana for all the years that were supplied to ford, chev , jeep , etc, etc ( high pinion , low pinion , HD , front & rears, doubles , etc )

go to www.bulltear.com ( yank site ) and jump on the furum there , look up General tech , then look up D60 & print it all out .

I have tried that, But they are all rears.
For a front Diff, I prefer a 77-79 F350 Diff, and they are very rare here. The Diffs under newish Dodge Rams and New F250's are often called D60, but are not right for conversions I believe.

Guess what else? I have bought rear D60s in Brisbane for less than $300 complete. Seek and you shall find.

Fronts on the other hand are few and far between. I have also bought 2 of these for under $500 but both needed work.

Firetrucks Diffs were a pair, and were not good value to me. A rear D60 is not suitable for me, Plus I've already reconditioned, Geared and Locked my Chev 14bolt.

Are they still for sale?

Hmmm just thinking about this.
Only has D44. I know the J10, J200 etc were all D44 too.....The only Jeep that came with FACTORY D60 (front) that I can think of is the M715....and that is closed knuckle.

It might be a copy of the housing design, but I believe the shafts (& other bits) are weaker.

I'll seperate if need be...

It is a HD, 35 spline shafts included, 8-lug hubs, full float, NO gears OR locker, disk brakes (Falcon), I think it is 64.5" WMS-WMS.

$1800

if its a sals out of a 101 it will have 5.58-1 gear ratio, 1.4 inch shafts and big ass cv's, probably bigger than gu's(never seen a gu but these puppy's are at least 50% bigger than a stock rover cv) can get disc brake conversion and they are 6 lug rover patern, good luck finding wheels
