Water leaking from front of motor...

Post by Meldge »

Hi All,

My truck has been getting hot, I have been filling it up, unable to find any leaks in the radiator and/or hoses I was stumped.

Next thing I notice is water/coolant is running down the front of my block and onto my steering dampener.

It is not being squirted there from any hoses, and I cannot see exactly where it is coming from.

Possibilities - Water Pump?

It is a Toyota Landcruiser with the 3F Petrol Engine.

Yeah had this happen before. Using coolant and overheating but by the time I got the bonnet up the coolant leak on the front of the pump had dried. :x

Yep, water pump.

Most pumps have a little hole in the pump housing that leads to the shaft bearing area.
The idea is that if the bearing water seal has failed & leaking water into the shaft bearing it will flow out this little hole as a indication to let you know its time for a new water pump.

This reduces the risk of the bearing seizing from rust in the middle of no where.

Thanks Guys,

My first thought was water pump, but just wasn't sure if it could be anything else...

I will check it out and have to go and get another one...

Has anyone ever rebuilt a 3F, was it costly and worth it?
I am thinking of throwing in a 1UZ sorta soonish, just weighing up my options.
