Sucking Juice

Post by benhl »

Hi Guys couple of Q's

What sort of Km's to you get out of a 22R lux '94 mod? i run 33's 4.88's and get about 300km out of a 60 odd liter tank. i think this sux but is it normal?

Also does anyone know if the 94 model SC 22R came with a low fuel warning light? if it did mines not working, also i thinkt he sender is farked as it never show as tottaly full, drops very rapidly from full to about 4/5ths then again at E. it will sit just above for quite a while then hit a bump almost and it drops to well below E, then runs out of juice.

Any advice please!!!!

Sounds like your fuel sender unit is jamming up (hit the bump then it drops a bit).

Mine usedto do the same thing 91 model lux 22r engine use to get about the same ammount of km's outta a tank it sucked big time thats one of the reasons i sold it costing to much to filler up every day!!

i tried replacing the sender unit and this kinda fixed the problem but it still persisted after driving down rough tracks after about 6 months and no only the sr5's had the low fuel light ;)

Also do you have a body lift in place as when i did mine the problems started happening and yes i extended all the lines and electrical to the tank when i found the problem after replacing the sender unit this fixed it completly

Hope this helps

good call about body lift, will check. What actually happens to the sender to cause problems when combined with body lift?

No worries :D

Sometimes the wiring for the sender unit gets streched out when a body lift is fitted sometimes you can get away with it by just clipping the cable ties and relocating to a different position...

Mine uses about the same but its a V8.the 18r cost me as much to run as the 253 so a lot more power for the same running costs is ok with me

My 18r is lucky to get 260k's around town running 33's 4spd
Upgrading to 22R with headwork and reground cam and extractors soon.
Maybe I won't need to ring it's neck but fuel economy is how you drive it
the reason old ladies fill up 1 time a year is cause they drive SLOW.
I'm not stuck I'm over here!
Watch where you driven!!!

cost me about $1000.94 model you'd probably be better off going for a later model engine conversion, maybe an injected 5.0 litre or supra or something along those lines.
