Probably the more important issue with driving an illegally modified 4wd on the road is that if you are involved in an accident and you hurt somebody and it can be shown that the illegal modifications contributed to the injuries then you will go to jail for a long time - even if the accident wasnt your fault.

So if your 4wd isnt legal then be very careful when driving on the roads. It isnt the RTA that you need to look out for, its everybody else.

Ok they told me someone dobbed me in at Redcliffe 7-11 which is where i fill with fuel. Funny as it was in 4wd mthly too.

Claytons, suspension and diffs all going to sydney to go on another member of AJOR's 97 XJ.

Bullbar went to AJOR member up the coast.

Wheels and tyres still up for grabs.

Ok now for the other bits of topic. Yes my truck was pushed to the limit, and yes I dit destroy it in the end in the pursuit of the sport. We all remember how nice it looked this time last year. I have out grown it a while back and was wanting it to do things that were to hard for it which is why so many things kept breaking.

Now at the pits, they did spot a crack in my chassis which is why they didnt let me drive home, it was right beside the steering box and was spotted when they were underneath getting my to turn the wheels.

The long arm, engineering, well it was a kit sold from the USA which they have to have engineered, and even when I fitted it I ended up fabbing extra re-inforcing brackets as I was not happy with the mounting on the chassis.

Also the other big think they stung was the extended shackles, they stood out like balls because of the rear Jbitz bar exposes them and after all my cutting.

So guys running revolvers on the road. Easy dont.

Yes I was targeted, yes its now off the road, I was only a mater of months off doing it myself, now I am just forced to. But ya gotta hate trucks that are bigger than mine, and I know less engineered in terms of home mods not bolt on kits that are running around on the streets. Doesnt make it right, nothing does.

Ok off my soap box.

sad but this is what I'm thinking. but now they have read this, they already know :P ;)

I dont post mine anymore... and my vehicle is near stock and insured... with a insurance company with tougher regs than QLD tranport has. But that doesnt mean that it's transport department ok.... you cant get a straight answer from them since they'll geive you a different answer every time you speak to them.

If I could get my 4by certified with half the stuff that the VIC guys get (and after all they are NATIONAL rules) I'd do it ASAP.

End result... driving a big tank (even a SWB Mav handles like one) just like current affair always bitch about. It handles like crap and is far worse both on and off road than my Vitara was on 31"s.

Hmmm safety anyone?

If you drive a big 4x4 on the road you should all be extra A1 good Mr or Mrs John or Jane Citizens... it's guys speeding, tailgating with big spots on the front, driving over traffic islands/round abouts/curbs/foot paths/hondas that makes us all look bad.

If a QLD transport certified engineer signs off a modificatin, how can a pen pusher with no real quals say that it can't be rego'd. I thought that was the whole idea behind paying big dollars to a engineer to sign off mod's was so you could get it rego'd.
I put a 302 into a old celica a few years back and had no problems getting rego in Vic. Came up to Brisbane to visit the oldies and didn't even get home before the police pulled me over and even though the car was rego'd and engineered in Vic, I had to get the car towed the rest of the way home. Qld transport wouldn't even look at it for rego. So I put in a 2l turbo, which made the car quicker, and got rego no problems and sold it straight away.
The rules are 30 years outdated and need to be overhauled.

And generally slower on road too, i know in my case it is that way...

All it takes is common sense. Cars modified to go faster and handle better work well, stock standard cars can also be pushed past the legal limits when it comes to speed and handling too...

I KNOW my car isn't modified for on road handling, but that doesn't mean i have been anywhere near rolling it...

7-11 Redcliffe! Fark I won't fill up there anymore. To be honest if I go out on the claws to say cruiser park etc, I put them on and drive straight there and when I get back take them off. However this latest event has inspried me to sell them as it not worth going thru the shit you are going thru right now. However I do know a guy, actually a friend of one of my best mates had a suzuki ute with dana diffs & a 2.8 turbo diesel engine from a hilux. It featured in 4wd monthly and two weeks later dept of transport were sitting around the corner of his house and got him on his way to work and put his c ar off the road. Sounds similar to you. By the way what is a yellow slip?

Yellow slip is a piece of paper they adhere to your windscreen noting the vehicle is defective and is not to be driven on public roads. The slip has a number that corresponds to a defect notice that is issued by QLD DOT. Depending on the terms of the defect notice, the default is 1 month to rectify the defects and book the vehicle in to a DOT inspecting station. If the issuing officer has forced you to have the vehicle towed from the inspecting station, you will have to tow the vehicle back to the inspecting station on the date of the next inspection. Depending on the nature of the defect though, and how you conduct yourself at the inspection, you may be able to drive the vehicle back home, straight home, and then back again at the later inspection date, but not during the defect period (as in down the shops, or to the workshop to have it worked on).

Defect notices are a pain, but the inspectors and issuing officers are just doing their job - these guys are not to blame.

Of course, I know they are just doing their job. So you can re-register the vehicle I assume? They have been set up at the top of my street before. Although I have ensured in most instances it meets the correct standards (the only issue may be the 285's at's and 3 inch lift which is more like 2-2.5 after it has settled and loaded) it still comforts me little when you see them, although they did look at when my wife took it down to get the engine numbers checked after the diesel conversion, but said nothing, but it looks fairly std and clean. If you live in Redcliffe, the main areas I see them is on McDonnell Rd in various locations and Snook St thru to Elizabeth Ave. At least once every 1-2 months

From what I understand the system flags your vehicle as carrying a defect, and dereg and rereg will not remove the defect flag, attached to the VIN, engine and rego as a whole, and if separated the defect remains attached.

But no the vehicle is not deregistered, if that's what you were asking?

The people checking the engine numbers at the rego office are a different kettle of fish to the station inspectors and mobile officers.

In the land of Steve ( "ah..let me look into that") Bracks, if you get defected and it is not a warning type..you know globe gone..a copy of the defect notice is sent to Vic Roads. If you don't respond to the defect within 28 days they suspend your rego until you do.

If you want to re register..guess what..you have to supply a RWC. and no LMVT (Licence Motor Vehicle Testor) is going to throw away his licence and issue a bodgy RWC on an obvious unroadworthy vehicle.

Got you buy the knackers.

How do you get the defect removed? Don't you have to present your vehicle for inspection? Like you turn up with your rig touching the stratosperhe and tyres you could plow a field with and they pass it. If so then the Vic roads inspectors are b lind? If not .........bargain.
Risky business though.

an mate in Miranda when he first got his license to do Roadworthy inspections, 2 mths later they 'raided him' took hjs inspection book, and went out to 'inspect' some of the cars at random he had passed to see how many bodgies he had done.. Lucky for him he had done NONE at that point....

defect removed, well currently I have de-registered the XJ, will be returning to stock and getting road worthy and just re-register, but it will always have a black mark against it.

You do the research, find out what mods will conform to regulations, fill in the appropriate paperwork (applications to fit modified items etc). Some of this information can be supplied by the RTA/DOT in your state, some from private enterprise and some from Inspectors/engineers. The other stuff that can't be approved should be removed and the vehicle returned to a roadworthy state. Then, with all approved paperwork in hand, present the vehicle for inspection at the DOT/RTA inspection station. Once the vehicle is passed, the defect will be removed, what the owner of the vehicle does from there is up to them...

The process will vary from state to state, and this is an abbreviated version of what will actually happen and the way to achieve a positive outcome.

have you heard of "safe-T-cams"?
this monitors where you are at a given time, and if you get photographed by another cam and have not stopped for your legally required amount of time you and your company will get fined along with some inspections and questions..

What about log books. Every time you travel more than 99 kilometres from your home depot (say brisbane) you must fill out a log book, labelling how much driving was done in each 24 hour period. Total kilometres covered breaks had and so on and so forth..

Random on the spot drug test
Weighing loads
Brakes testing
Tyre and windscreen testing.

If you are a truck driver, expect to get pulled up once a month by qld tranport, anywhere in queensland. (the southern states can be even more strict)

Try this one:
A B-double is allowed to be a certain length in queensland, but the length is different in SA ans NSW, so if we tow into one of these states our combination has to change in lenght.... whats going on there??

trust me not all truckies are full of drugs for 42 hours, and they have heavy penalties and are specifically targeted on a regular basis.

On the other hand so are 4x4s

So are ricers

I reckon they dont target old sh!tter hippy cars enough!!

And they have too many speed cameras...
hands and mums dont count!!!
