Gear control box assembly

Post by roo1 »

Hi 2 all you ROO owners, I have a 92 V6 short wheel base jackaroo and I have oil leaking from the rear bottom of the "GEAR CONTROL BOX ASSEMBLY " Looks like there is a little hole (vent) in the bottom.
Has any one come across this problem?

Thanks 2 all.

Hi Roo1,

Always great to find others with exactly the same vehicle. As you may have realised there are not a lot of them around. So have you done any modifications to your Jack? Any pics?

As for your problem, I have the same thing on mine. Had a look in the manual and it doesnt go into a lot of detail on this. I dont see it as anything to worry about. Probably some sort of overflow. This means though that you probably would want to consider the possiblity of water entering during deep water crossings.

Cheers,

Wow! When I said exactly the same vehicle I didnt think it would be that similar. Is yours the base model 5sp manual Jackaroo like mine or a higher end one? Where do you go 4x4ing? Your pics look like it might be Mundaring???

Noticed that you also have some sort of flares on your guards. What sort are they? I cant quite make them out...

As for the manual, check out this thread:

Here's mine to show the similarities:

I have some good memories of the Glen Forrest/Mundaring area. Its pretty much where I leared my 4x4 skills when I first got the Jack. Will have to head there next time I'm up in Perth.

Yes, And call in for a chat.
Just got back from Cervantes, caught some good fish.
Would you know where I can get a rear tailshaft, mine was moving on the
universal cups, had it fixed, and now it has play in the universal,
best replace it if possible.

Awesome fish there mate! Jewy's and Baldies... Cant get much better than that. I caught a very nice Jewy off Dunsborough on a fishing charter a few weeks ago (pic attached).

Probably drifting slightly off topic now but anyway... :D

As for your rear diff and u/j's I dont really know of a specific place appart from your local holden dealer (Goldy's I assume) but I just had my u/j's replaced by my local garage in town. Dont know if the actual shaft would be harder to find with the swb being uncommon... Shouldnt be a problem.
