gavinc wrote:just wondering how much people have been paying for a servise these days to servise my 2.8 luxs it is geting over the $300 mark cheers gavin
go to repco and do it yourself. costs about $80 for all filters and oils. takes about 1 hour. excellent learning experience.
The more you know about your car the more it can help too if somethin goes wrong [god forbid it does ] when your out and about in the bush even buy a manual to help you along
gavinc wrote:iam going to start doing it my self for now on .so where do i take all the old filters and oil
i have been stockpileing (sp?) mine at home i am told a few servo's will accept it if you are polite and ask nicely.
When I change the oil, I give the sleepers in the garden a good coat of the old sump oil. White ants hate it with a passion, helps preserve the timber, and makes them a kinda cool dark colour instead of treated pine green.
also gavin when you do your fuel fitler the 2.8 deisels are really hard to prime or pump new fuel through stick a air compresser hose in the petrol tank seal it then pump comes through so much easier.

lol one way of doing it i guess!
definantly buy a workshop manual, the toyota one is the best, but ive found the gregories to be ok aswell for general maintenance

yeah i have a work shop manual and luxinator you must of read my mind because i was going to ask that next how hard it was to change the fuel filter . my dumb mechanic i dont think has change the fuel ever i have a good idea on how to do a servise
Nothin wrong with doin the compressed air in tank trick ;just don't go over board with the compressed air or that 50ltr tank will hold 55ltr or leak if your really unlucky
Dunno why you do all this fancy stuff, when i changed the fuel filter on mine i just gave it a few pumps and then it kicked over first time. Maybe im lucky
Never had a problem with getting fuel threw again after changing filters and i never pre filled em or used the pump, just held the key on for about 10 secs and it would fire up again every time.
A good system is oil EVERY 5000 in a diesel its a MUST if u want it to last oil filter and fuel every 10 000 ,air filter atleast a check every service as well as a grease n general check over too, brakes especially drum brakes after a mud run were they will trap the mud in and chew the brakes up just remove brake drum and a hose out should cover it .
Before hosing them pull the wheel cylinder boot open to make sure they are not leaking brake fluid.
Others will have other ideas on what i have mentioned all depends on how picky u want to be
i just done my fuel filter and all i had to do was to pump the button and it went first go the filter was that old that it was starting to rust and ive done the oil ,oil filter, geased it, checked the brakes and air filter ok what have i missed and is there any thing that i have to gease on the front diff could not see any thing but just wanted to check bar for the drop drag link cheers gavin
And the power steering, battery electrolyte, coolant.
Just buy yourself a gregories or haynes. Nah, f*ck the haynes, get a gregories. Its got all the "how to" stuff about servicing. You cant fail, unless you try really hard.
