Powertrax Lock-Right install

Post by Pony »

Hi all;
I am going to install a Lock-Right dif lock in the front of my HDJ79 Cruiser Ute, myself.
I believe it is the same part number locker, as any post 94 Toyota live axle.
Just after any tips or tricks, on what to, or not to do. I have reasonable mechanical shills, so I think I will be able to do the job, just wanted to know if anyone has done the job and can tell me exactly, what troubles if any, they had.
I know is a big debate on whether front or rear fit, but I believe for MY use, the front is the way to go.
Thanks
Pony

you should be able to remove old spider gears etc without undoing the crown wheel, if you have to make sure to check / get backlash checked
if need be it's a good time to change the bearings too ;)

Thanks for the reply's;
Especially Gonzo, for posting on the other forum as well.
Has anyone else installed one of these Lock-Right puppies themselves?
What is the story with the gasket between the third member and the housing? Some say use a gasket, others say just use gasket goo. Whats everyone's opinion?
scotto, I have been told that the crown wheel must come off to allow access to the pinion shaft to be able to remove the spider/side gears. Have you fitted on to a Toyota yourself? Is my source talking through his arse?
My ute is only 18 months old and so I would hope the bearings are in good condition.
But thanks for the info
