diff

Post by THE 109 »

salisbury diffs have a removable 10bolt plate on the back of the diff housing to allow the removal of the diff centre.the centre is larger than the rover type and has 4 planet gears, rover diffs normally only have 2 planet gears.the salisbury ring and pinion are once again larger than the rover one.

A salisbury has a removeable pressed metal diff cover and the center is cast and not removeable.

no way.. the sals is pretty chunky...
go stick your head under a pre 02 defender and look at the rear diff compared to the front diff... the housings on a Sals are huge..

Plus the carrier portion of a sals is cast with the center housing so cannot be removed as such, i believe that some dana parts will fit though.

The "Salisbury" axle uses a Dana 60 ring and pinion. This is a 9-3/4" hypoid gear. The "Rover" diff is an 8-1/2" spiral bevel R&P.

The Salisbury diff housing has to be spread to remove the carrier. The spreader tool uses the two sockets either side of the diff, but big mongrel screwdrivers will also to the trick

Installation is the reverse of removal - yeah right.
