Post by Fathillbilly »

do any of you guys know the differance between the two T/F case gears, besides ratios

ie. do the rockhopper have a back lash eliminator?
are either straight cut gears on the low range set?

or any other info

that is because they are in my car. I have a pretty recognizable coffee table :finger:

They whine a little more than the standard gears, but not enough to be noticeable unless you are listening for it.

The input gear in the above pic does not look to have a backlash eliminator fitted but I think the Nissans have them fitted on the idler gear so there is constant tension between the input to idler and idler to low gear cogs. I know all GU sets from Marks from now on will come with them standard.
Either brands will not be straight cut as the noise would be unbearable.

My rockhoppers are around 3 years old now and they whine LOTS when in 3rd or higher (in low range only of cousre). They have been the same since the 1st day I put them in.

My hilux ones were the same, I think they must be straight cut. I bought an exchange case already built so I never saw the actual gearset. But they were real noisy.

These GQ ones are maybe a tiny bit noisier than stock gears, not even noticeable. The ones in the pic are the new ones with the backlash eliminator.
