the 60 diff conversion was quite easyif you can weld and grind anyone can do it. the rear runs an overkill coil conversion there custom coils designed by them.the front is RUF but doesnt flex that much cause the shocks are only like 7" long but i dont want too replace them yet because i will be converting the front end too coils when the money allows me to.

sorry about the thread hijack but:
Good: Rear diff offset the right way
Crossover steering already
Strong
Full floating in the rear.
Bad: Heavy
Big
not many available ratios
Bundera axles are better for sierra use but are harder to find. (have better available ratios though.) A later 75 sieries front end would be a good idea too as the front hilux sized diff is reverse rotation and much smaller than the 60 series diff.
If you are worried about strength with the sierra diffs and 35's, go with a smaller tyre becuase by the time you fit 35's to 60 series diffs you'll have about the same clearance as a sierra with 30's on it.
I reckon the beauty of sierras is their small, light and high clearance diffs. Once you go to larger, heavier diffs on a sierra you eliminate most of the advantage of a zook, and you just end up with an underpowered hilux/landcruiser etcetcetc.
My guess is for the cost of (properly) fitting and locking 60 series diffs you could beef you sierra diffs enough to live with 35's and bask in the clearance.
Just my 0.2 cents worth.
Steve.
Ps huntr - seen your car around st.andrews - sure is big

I disagree. The 60's are wider than bothe the lux and the Bundera.
And you won't make a sierra diff strong enough compared to a sixty to run 35's for the same cost. As much as I am very much Pro Zook stuff toy diffs are really the only cost effective way for strong diffs. I chose the 60's for the extra width strength and offset centres. You will buy a pair of sixties for tha same as a rea bundy.

Try getting that statment out of sam 12 months ago
Yes the 60s are big but i think i have shaved them too have the same clearance as lux diffs
Also what wheel bearings you going too use in the stregthend zook diffs too handle 35s?
The extra weight helps down low believe me
with tcase gears and 35s do you realy need more than 4.11s in the diffs?
Sam seems to do allright with 5.1s in his zook
I payed $600 complete front and rear for the 60s try that with bundy diffs
you going too spend a lot of cash importing hardend axles, birfiels and what ever else you need then theirs trussin the housings it all ads up and you still need lockers any way
how many people end up spending the money on putting the vitara gears in too?
thats my thoughts any how

Good: STRONG, cheap, offset, heavy, high steer, STRONG, fully floating axles (IF you break, you still drive, wide, STRONG, lower ratio, fully floating axle (engineer will allow you to run taller tyres legally), STRONG, everyone runs toyota pattern rims
Bad: Clearance (Shave that sucker), poor ratio availability, waste of time if your from Victoria as week axles seem to survive when you've got no traction....

Gone drag racing......
Strength isn't everything if you are sitting on your diffs and have no payload 'cos it weighs the same as a zook @ GVM.
I'm sure there is a place for really big diffs in sierras, and I have been involved with putting MQ's under ljxtreme's critta (shaved rear) It's just that I think that sometimes when stuff breaks it's telling you you were being a tool and you shouldn't have been doing that in the first place.
I've broken a couple of CV's in other peoples sierras. One was a 1.0 litre welded front and I didn't know it had gone (in mud) and the other was in Greg's car. The shackle had inverted and the tyre was jammed into the firewall and I tried to drive it out - sure enough, CV.
The thing is, if you respect the car, you'll always be better off on zook diffs becuse of the clearance and lightness. I think for some competition applications it's cool to over diff the car because the rules etc don't let you drive like you might recreationally.
I think that lots of people loose sight of the goal when building a car and try and build out every percieved weakness and forget that that doesn't always lead to a better result. If you want a car with the highest off road capability, you will always get the highest capabillity with sierra diffs. If all you want is a really big strong heavy car, then by all means go to off brand diffs.

no way on earth are u better on zuk diffs
can i just asked if u have wheeled the exact same setup with zuk diffs and toy diffs? the zuk diffs have no comparsion
but it might be differnt tho for the tracks/driving u do
but up here in the rock even if u only run 30" tires toys will be still ahead

i gotta agree wit tim.... for the stuff we drive up here anyway, zook diffs don't kick it compared to toys. i've seen a few different zooks, and they're hell more stable with lux diffs under them than running zook stuff...
mine on zooks with offset rims was almost as wide as tim's on lux's, but his was heaps more stable sideways... and his was taller with an exo!
for driving rocks too, ur heaps more likely to break stuff than mud, ya couldn't run much more than a 31 without breaking everytime u go out on zook diffs
