gu gq diffs

so can someone explain the go with gq gu diffs. i hear all this talk of big diff little diff etc. can gu diffs carriers center and all that be bolted to the gq housing? are the spline patterns the same. is there a differnce between petrol and diesel?
and info would be a real help

GU centres will bolt into a GQ housing. Splines are the same (gq axle will fit into a GU to get you outta trouble). GU CV joints are about 2cm bigger than GQ. I have GQ locker in the front of a GU diff with one tiny mod.

The crown gears are different. Can't remember which way around but one has a champhered edge and won't fit into the other housing. But other than that they are the same.

So only difference in strength is the larger cv's?


So will a gu cv's fit into gq?

unfortunately nothing is ever easy
if only the larger cv fitted straight into the gq. ive shattered 2 in 5 trips

So whats the small mod to fit a GQ front locker in to a GU Front diff :?:

Its easier than that....If you do that mod them you have to machine each axle you get to replace CV's to make a standard GU axle fit, when doing the mod there are 4 bolts in the GQ locker 2 short and 2 long where the axles slide in . the 2 longer ones stop the Gu axle change these and all will be good...

Im about to undertake this setup. So Ill keep you posted.
