Seems my insurance will be the same with or witout forced induction :lol: therefore I will have it if its feasible :D But I know little about it... just the basic principles.

The engine is a 1.3 efi and I'd like to run mild boost around 5-7 pounds. Should haul like that for a little zook :cool:

It has S3 atm so gearing isn't an issue. Should I turbo or s/c :?: Also ideas on the parts required for each, what suits like blower sizes, and rough costs would be great.

Finally do we think the std ecu will cope with a mild application like that :?: Thanks all..........

Supercharge it. Super should be better for torque and crawling.

i feel that a supercharger wil b better, as even at idle it is boosting, not like a turbo that comes in later in the rev range, therefore a super charger is more suited 2 crawling coz as u aplly power u get boost instead of waiting 4 it..

thats my opinion anyways, as i plan 2 supercharge my new rig 4 this purpose

go the charger....

the std ecu will cope...

its 1.6 throttle body so it pumps more than enough juice..


with the pulley thats on there now it should run around 10psi..

what kind of supercharger are we talking about here :?: off what vehicle :?:

where would it mount :?: can I still install the air con as well :?:

10psi is that peak boost at high rpm... like what would it do at idle :?: This thing is a daily driver so I'm not sure I want it going nuts at the lights :lol:

it idles at 3psi...

ok sounds good acyually. When does it peak and die off though :?: Cause I'd really like it for the highway as well.

The idea is to set up a camper trailer for all my (more the gf's :lol: ) junk so it'd be good if the blower was still boosting right through to about 5000rpm.

Got gearing (and 30's :roll: ) so not too worried about low down boost. Even if it didn't come in till 2000rpm as long as it was smooth

I have a turbo on the 1.3 I find with the injection alone more than enough tourqe with the 1.3 and then the turbo is great on road, and mud etc. I would go either way my choice was on cost it was less expensive for me to do the turbo and we could still run the air conditioning. We did have a suby charger origionaly to use but never used it.

Go the turbo. It works well on mine!! But i am the king of rice!

But you will need to replace the ECU. Install was pretty easy. Makes almost 100kw at the wheels with 7psi boost and it performs very well off road. Still havent finished tuning it after having it in for over a year. Have had no problems at all with reliability etc just keeps on going!

Easy enought to make brackets, to mount it, but it is the pipe work that concerns me. on what goes where, and if a intercooler is required.

I made up the mainfold with 6mm angle and steam bends, the head flange I had laser cut but If I was unable to get that done at the time I would have just cut it of the extractors. and the exaust side I did on a mill. I use an old haltech computer. But I think the factory computer might be up to the job with low pressure. I only run 6psi more than enough.

computer $200
efi $100
fuel pump had already
turbo $100
intercooler $40
this was the only money spent the rest was done for no cost to me.

I think though overall a supercharger can be installed cheaper and easier especially the subaru charger. couple brackets boost lines and fab up a pulley. If not for A/C. I would recomend s/c there are probably more benefit's for supercharging. Saying that though the Turbo is great :lol:

might be time to get that long range tank =)

I'd go s/c.. especially with the hot weather in summer too!

Is there ANY way to run a supercharger & aircon :?: That'd be ideal

If you're talking about the 4agze s/c. They can be had for $200-$250.

he's not running it anymore the engine is in my zook :lol:

No. It gets hotter the harder it revs and loses volumetric efficiency the faster it spins. Obviously the lower boost you run the less dropoff you're going to have through the revs. I have heard of people getting good results with water-methanol sprayers infront of their s/c to cool both the air charge and s/c down. At too much revs/boost the teflon coated rotors start to delaminate.

As above. They don't need one but a small one would help. But it would add slightly to lag.

And remember, PSI is just a measure of airpressure between the s/c and your chamber, not airflow or efficiency. Sometimes a denser, colder charge is better than a much hotter one at slightly higher PSI.

thats what i wanted to hear :D

seems very simple, plumb the inlet to the airfilter, run the outlet to the inlet on the motor, and wire up the clutch switch if using the 4agze

hmm a switch on the supercharger, reminds me of mad max,
wonder how much fuel it would chew when on then normal.
only concern is switch it on how the normal g16b ecu going to like that.
