TD42T and a PSSSHHHT sound under load

Post by Grungle »

I have a TD42T with a Go Fats Bits boost control valve set at 12.5 PSI (fitted for 2 weeks). When we went camping over the weekend towing a 1500kg camper, there was a pssshhht sound when giving it a bootful up a hill. There was no loss of boost (according to the guage) or power so I haven't done a turbo hose. It is not evident when driving normally either with the camper or a bootful without.

Any ideas?

It is the boost spiking up to 13psi and then factory setup over boost protection valve (round valve in side of chamber) dumps excess boost and will not let it go over 13psi. I had same thing running a GFB controller. They are shit in my opinion and allow the system to spike. I backed the boost back to 10psi and ocasionally it would still do it.

I fitted a turbosmart controller and have not had a drama since.

Thanks Linc. That would explain everything and is a relief it is not something that has gone wrong.
