Damaged Defender

Damaged Defender
How much you reckon it will cost me to fix this?
From the thread in chit chat. Prices are guesstimates only, and are from wreckers. If you find someone selling privately you may get better prices, and a wrecker may give you a deal on the whole lot if you buy it in one go.
Looking at the photos again the pillars may not need replacing, but check for kinks or folds in the B pillar, especially lower down. I have seen them bent slightly from softer rolls than yours. If you are fitting new pillars it would be a good idea to galvanise them first, they are a common rust spot in Defenders.

Buy it from the insurers or the damged vehicle auctions,
but before that, look into the things you have to do to reregister a written off vehicle. I think in QLD now for vehicles that are classed as a "repairable writeoff" you must pay for a $500 or so inspection (they check to make sure you haven't swapped the vin onto a stolen vehicle).
Also check the cost of parts - looks like you will need (prices are just guesstimates):
Roof (All 110 roofs will fit - 1984-current) $800+
Windscreen (1984-current) $100+
2 front doors (1992-current) $500+
2 Pillars (B and C pillars and sill all one piece) $800+ NEW (FWD motors Fairfield Rd Brisbane)
Roll Cage (in case you do something silly like that again) $$$
Most of the parts bolt on and off fairly easily. The pillars will be the hardest part to remove from the rear body where they are riveted on, but with the roof and doors off it should be relatively easy.

Isuzurover's covered it pretty well. The only other thing to really look for is a bent bulkhead. It looks like you're alright, though. If that's been damamged you've got a much bigger repair bill as its a very big job replacing one.
What are the wings like? You may need to add tose in depending on how it landed.

it only cost me $1500
try ringing around the rover wreckers.
you can pick up county roofs cheaper than fender roofs, save a few $$$
maybe sam or ruff would sell the pillars from the rover buggy they just built??
david
The pillars/sills on a ute are completely different to a wagon.
County roofs are stronger. They have 3 front-back ribs on the top where the defender has one rib on the bottom.

Pup wrote:mate from what you send in the general chit chat, its insured, write the thing off and start again, you pay money to be insured, why go out and spend more money, i can only see more expense and hassle happening if you try and fix it,
Get the insurance money, buy it back, spend some $$$ fixing at you will probably be 5 - 10K ahead, depending on the agreed insurance value.
If you can do the work yourself (not that hard) and have the time, you could end up with some nice little accessories to add with the extra $$$.

you could buy an old landy body and modify the bulkhead/fire wall to fit the older windscreen frame.
That would be a very cheap way out, as i believe the defender roof is only different at the front, also the ribs (but that don't matter), the windscreen is taller, you would have to change the the wiper arms aswell.
