1KZ Engine and gearbox.

Post by Hobbz »

What gearbox will bolt onto the 1KZ engine.
A friend of mine was thinking about replacing his 2LT engine, in his LJ73 Cruiser, with a 1KZ engine for some more power.
It's still at the thinking stage, we have also talked about a 3B engine or a ???. Open for suggestions.

Funny, I was contemplating the same thing on my 2L LJ70.

You use your current gearbox. Only thing have to fabricate the joining plate...no problem. You will also have to weld in two new engine mounts.

The 2LT in the Bundera ran a R151 (R15something anyhow) box, so if the 73 is the same then I'm fairly sure that this is the same gearbox used in the 1KZ Surfs- but with a different bell. All you havwe to do is source the bell to suit the 1KZ (there should be a few around going off all the old 3L Surfs gettin around) and it will bolt directly onto your existing box.
