diesel conversion ??? what do you think

Post by bushytas »

Hi all
I have been thinking about doing a diesel conversion on my surf. It’s an 87 two door model, I wouldn’t sell it for the world but as you all know the 2.4lt is under powered to hell I want to stick to diesel and want an easy conversion.
I’ve been looking around the net and found Oldsmobile v6 diesels 4.3l and also 13bt and 14bt Toyota 4c engines.
I want a bit of a power plant to stick under the hood but don’t want petrol, as it sucks when under water (yes I have a periscope on it) remember it is surf there built for water lol.
Anyway any ideas would be good and as much info as you can provide eg gear box bolts line up engine mounts etc etc
Cheers

Info on yota engines...
http://www.birfield.com/~ramullen/FAQ/TEXT/05-04.html

Dont think youd wanna risk bolting a 14-BT to your gearbox, it should be a R151 but i dont think that would take the power...

a 14-BT is a big engine more designed for cruisers.. better to look at a 1KZTE, it will bolt up to your existing gearbox, only requires new engine mounts, engine loom, and some replumbing...

SO is that a yes it will bolt up and you wouldnt like to see what it would do to the gear box or more no you would have to change stuff.
as for the engine that you talk about dan thats tdi ecm i would rather a standard old pump hanging of the side of the engine not as much to get wet please corect me if im wrong ???? im not up with 4wd's any more they seem to take big leaps when your not looking anyway ideas and info give me more lol i need to do something with my surf its getting to the point where im going mad
