my mates parent just done the same convesion, and they had the 3.0L as well, so instead of buyin a patrol box, the got 5.0L motor and auto from a calais, and fitted that in with the marks adaptors stuff, they paid to have it fitted thou

ADAPT

Post by tuf045 »

mate i don't think that they make an adaptor to suit the 3l petrol patrol! i think that you might have to swap in the 4.2l gearbox. or like ozy1 said use an auto.

cheers wes

no you cant mate the 5l up to the 3l manual box..and it wouldnt handle that much power anyway....it is a lightweight box...either get yourself a 5 speed manual from a tb/td 42 which you will need to get an adapter for or mate up the auto from the motor(either turbo 700,turbo 350,turbo 400 etc) to the gq transfer case...which you will need an adapter for as well.....both these adapters cost around the same....

pm bartso on this board.. he has done the 5litre fuel injected holden into his gq and mated it up to the gq auto.....he has had some issues with the auto but...

i will be running a 308/turbo 400/gq transfer in my buggy and am about to put a 308 and td42 5 speed in my patrol tow vehicle (currently a 3litre)... the adapter for the conversion (engine to box)cost 925 from marks and they also do a heavy duty clutch kit for about 300 from memory

i have done a couple of 5ltr conversions . iwouldnt use a t700 i had nothing but problems with setting the thing up to shift right. i had another gq with a 5 speed in it that went much harder than the auto one.
remember the 5ltr doesnt have much torque so a little rev on take of makes the manual a lot more drivable.
also marks dont do a conversion for a t350 or t400 we they never last time i checked

My mates parents originally had the electronic T700 when their conversion was done, but had a few dramas with the setup, they have just recentloy replaced it with the older T700 as the found the eletrical side to be up to shit, they love it so far, and no dramas yet.

Yes they are reliable, just follow the instructions, however I have done 4 chev conversions and 3 of the adaptors were out of true, have the adaptor checked. The thrust bearing carrier out of line with the faces.

they do adapters for the turbo boxes to a gq transfer....$925.. thats what is being used in the buggy...

i cant comment on the adapters for the engine to gq 5 speed but have also heard that they have some alignment problems.....hopefully i get a good one for my patrol ;)

Hadfeild (Castelmain Rod Shop) also do adaptors. I used one of their adaptors for mine and it was spot on.
