Hi all. I found an unusual fault recently on my '87 NT 1.3. Whilst checking the unis for wear I discovered that the rear pinion flange was loose and the seal was just starting to weep. Bought all the bits to overhaul the diff., thinking it definitely didn't owe me anything in kilometers, and pulled it to begin dismantling. Surprise,surprise, the spline was slogged out.The nut had not loosened in any way. The seal had cut a furrow in the outside of the flange spline as the problem worsened. Fitted another flange and seal and new nut and all is now O.K. I can only assume that 5.14s, a Lock Right and Centipedes have put a lot of stress on that part of the diff. The rest of the diff. is perfect! We live and learn,eh?

My suspension is SPUA,thank you. In Tasmania ,side angles are a fact of life and SPOA is not really an option. Thus, one does the best one can with SPUA. FYI, 2" body lift, 30mm. longer shackles. Kings Springs long travel leaves,(SUZ 002 front, SUZ 006 rear)Gabriel LT gas shocks, Climax shackles at the rear and the sucker works!!

SPOA, axel wrap and a stuffed uni could all cause this.

Pinion angle is OK as I get about 20-24 months out of the rear uni. (a Mitsubishi one). I agree with what you say about drop shackles but only in regard to stock length leaves-which mine are far from! I've always advocated that drop shackles should be the last droop improver-not the first, otherwise they are a bit tough on the rear spring eyes. Also there is a tendency for people to use them open in the wrong country and then complain about breakages.
